How Chelsea could improve their defense ahead of next season (part 1)🧵
Chelsea’s defensive struggles have been a major talking point among fans over the past few seasons—and those concerns have only grown following Colwill’s ACL injury, which has kept him sidelined for the entire campaign.
There’s real substance behind the criticism. Among the top six sides, only Aston Villa have conceded a higher expected goals (xG) total (46.98) than Chelsea (43.75). When you compare that to league leaders Arsenal, who have conceded just 24.37 xG, the gap becomes even more striking.
If Chelsea are serious about closing that gap and competing at the highest level, significant defensive improvements will be essential.
Hi fellow Chelsea fans! 👋
As usual, I’ll be dropping a new thread analysing how we can strengthen our defence in the upcoming transfer window.
This will be divided into two parts:
Part 1: My assessment of our current centre-backs — who should stay and who should move on.
Part 2: Potential centre-back signings — their strengths, weaknesses, and how they would improve the team.
Stay tuned 🔵
