It is always great to see speakers who have experienced the history we teach sharing that knowledge with our students! @missvillysclass
Thank you to Mr. Ernest Martinez, chairman of @ceclef for speaking to our Mexican American Studies class before their final today at @NISDJay! ¡Si se puede!

As a historian, I love the @WWIImuseum and when my 13 year old asks to go visit I one ecstatic dad.

Sentence stems are a great way to model writing concepts for AP classes. Students can't be assumed to write well if we don't model effective writing and sentence stems are great for that. @missvillysclass
I love using sentence stems in the classroom!

Why is @NISDHSSocSt the best? Our coordinators! Great conversations about our mission and vision this morning that developed into looking at cultural and artistic innovations @SAMAart using @GooseChaseEDU. We are excited to see how we can have our own learning renaissance.

Great day going over our "doing history" principles with new teachers. From engaging digital tools to interactive investigations, these teachers seemed fired up about the new year and we are equally excited to have them on board. #nisd2021nta

There are a lot of days technology sucks (like yesterday), but sometimes it can be fun: playing digital vocab dominoes with @melissa_ss14 in prep for @NISDTaft Social Studies big review!

Political courage: when a leader makes a choice for the greater good -- not for political interest or gain.  This year, our #ProfileinCourage Essay contest challenges students to submit an essay about a brave leader who inspired them. 1st place prize? $10,000 for college.

Because formative assessment should “inform,” a blackened circle on a multiple choice test doesn’t tell you very much. It tells you the kid didn’t get the right answer but not why. Formative assessment should give you an inkling about that all-important why. 5/15

Let’s start with the “form” in formative. What’s being 'formed' is you, not your students. You’re assessing your students in order to figure out your next instructional move. 3/15

historians.org/publications-… A great article on how to think about your instruction, especially in these trying times. I particularly like the idea of "circling the verbs" in the end- makes you think about what you're really asking them to do.

Especially the word "read-" I think about my college kids. Many don't know what "reading" really means. Guided reading puts the blinders on to making connections- what if we gave them the concept question to answer before they read? Might it change their approach?
