I’m seeing a lot of confusion about the Equal Rights Amendment online.
I've been working on the ERA for 13 years & literally wrote a book about it.
So, let me help answer some questions.
1) Yes, it really is a real amendment & fully part of the U.S. Constitution. Full stop.
Community note
The National Archivist has stated the amendment cannot be certified without action from Congress or the courts:

Biden's January 17, 2025 statement is purely symbolic and lacks legal authority:

The original ratification deadline of 1979 (extended to 1982) was missed:

President Biden’s official notice to the nation today follows clearly established precedent dating back to President Adams in 1798. The ERA is a valid part of our Constitution.
Community note
The Archivist of the United States, charged with publishing ratified amendments, states:
"At this time, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) cannot be certified as part of the Constitution due to... legal, judicial, and procedural decisions."
Biden's statement is symbolic.

NEW REPORT‼️ The data shows there were more pregnancy-related prosecutions in the first year after Dobbs than in ANY prior year.
Why? State actors are emboldened, putting pregnant people under INCREASED surveillance and making a dire situation even worse.
