It’s likely the last full year before the Final Fantasy VII Re-Trilogy comes to an end. So let’s take one final voyage through the entire universe-- this time with one key difference. You. Welcome to the 2026 Final Fantasy VII Lecture Series. Let’s mosey. Again.

Saw Disclosure Day! I geeked out over the religious discussion, bc this is a topic I use often with my students: if life were found elsewhere in the universe, what would that do to your faith? It’s a question meant to introduce cognitive dissonance and help them learn adaptability. For Christians, I always direct them to the 6th Article of Religion. It is important to remember that scripture contains that which is necessary unto salvation. That is, the omission of aliens (and myriad other topics) is not a dealbreaker for the Christian. But it might demand a broader understanding of scripture’s purpose (and a broader definition of one’s neighbor!). Anyway, great movie and great discussion starter.

This is awesome to see. Best time to start the trilogy.
Looks like a lot of people are getting hyped for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is currently sitting at #2 on Steam’s Top Sellers list. The game is also part of the ongoing Steam Final Fantasy franchise sale, discounted by 65% right now.

Start with Remake. Go on to Rebirth. Finish with Revelation. You’ll be fine. And if you like the world enough, go check out the original. Whether it’s a sequel or a remake, the 7R series is self-contained and can be enjoyed well enough with no prior knowledge.
As an outsider, I've never truly understood the appeal of Final Fantasy but I am very close to finally caving and checking out the FF7 Remakes. This is an almost irresistible deal.

Finished FFX again after my actual pilgrimage inspired me, putting 100 hours into it this time. Got the celestial weapons and the secret summons… utterly wrecked everything. Never 100 it before (sigh, it was on switch so no trophies lol) Top 3 FF for me post Santiago. Gotta revisit my workbook for it now. Now do I dare play FFX-2?? Never did in the day.

It demands that streamers, games, and companies adapt. Streamers must make content that supplements, not replaces, the experience. Games must provide more player agency. Then, when content raises awareness of a product leading to sales, companies can enthusiastically collaborate.
Final Fantasy VII trilogy director says streamers are causing "a bit of a crisis" for the RPG genre gonintendo.com/contents/6180…

Wanted to write about this but couldn’t really get my thoughts to fit well within the word count My thesis was going to be that within the shipping space people care about canonicity And the comparisons are just an offshoot of arguing canon

If you wonder why I engage with so-called "shippers," this is why. Early on in my content creation, I'll admit I was pretty dismissive of them. I was wrong about them, (on every side). When you treat others with curiosity rather than assumption, amazing things can happen.

The discussions around this have been so interesting to me, and as always, I’m learning a lot. Thanks, everyone, for jumping in with your ideas!

Naoki Hamaguchi says the sequence of the story beats might change in FF7 Revelation, but they are confident that they were able to remain true to the original! via @VGC_News “That being said, there might be some changes that we apply, an example being the sequence of the story beats. For example, if you look at the order or the exact story moment where the Rocket Town sequence happens in the original, that should have been included in FF7 Rebirth instead of Revelation." “In FF7 Revelation, or to be a bit more exact, in the second half of Revelation, that’s when the party visits Rocket Town and the Rocket Town story, or the event happens there. We did make some adjustments in terms of the sequence and the order of how one of these story beats would happen in the game, but again, the general idea is not to make any changes or omit anything. “The orders might be shifted up a bit, but in that sense, I think we were able to keep everything as close as we can, so I think the team and I did a pretty good job at that. I would say I’m pretty confident that we were able to remain true to the original.” videogameschronicle.com/feat…
