If you're a real human and aren't pushing some hateful regressive agenda (especially if you're interested in my morbid existential psych / therapy / teaching kinds of stuff), then let's go mingle in a web space less doomed than this one. See you there! bsky.app/profile/profpash.bs…

Probably mostly done with this chirper app and will instead be migrating over to the cloudless atmosphere app. Same name over there. Thanks for hanging out y'all.

Does religious belief protect people from death anxiety? Are secular folks more prone to existential concerns? How do such factors relate to mental health? If these questions intrigue you, then I am stoked to share this paper! dx.doi.org/10.1037/hum000036… researchgate.net/publication…

“Fall Back” is stupid. No rational person wants more morning light and less evening light. Gimme DST all year. Don’t @ me about the kids waiting for morning school busses in the dark, farmer’s needs, etc. I’m a father of three who lives in the rural midwest. It’s all bologna.

Seems like a great time to remind people that sugar DOES NOT cause hyperactivity. 🍭🍫🍬 Your kid is jazzed because of parties, costumes, staying up late, lots of extra socializing, etc. Have a wonderful night and don’t demonize treats! 🎃🎃🎃

If depression = brain disease because it is mediated by the brain, i.e. 1.stuff -> 2.brain mediator -> 3.depression does that imply that depression is also a stress disease or exercise or social support disease, because these also mediate 1.stuff -> 2.mediator -> 3.depression ?

Nothing worse than going to submit a letter of recommendation only to learn that there are 10 ranking questions and 20 specific text boxes to fill out. Please, please, please just let me upload a letter of recommendation. I am begging you. No one has time for this.

In every successful therapy, there is a period when the patient feels more lost than ever. They are relinquishing old ways of being & have not yet consolidated new ways We are changing life patterns. There is no path from point A to point B that does not pass through the unknown

If you want to make a dent into rates of mental health problems, make sure people have a roof over their heads, health insurance coverage, enough food to eat. Let's start there. And let's not forget Kendler: "You would not explain hypertension at the level of quarks".

“In psychotherapy, many of the things which the patient discovers about himself are things which he may say that he has known all along but never clearly recognised. Such insights, especially when unflattering, may have occurred to him before, but in so fleeting a fashion

It’s August! Many people are making decisions about applying to programs after undergrad. If concerns about competitiveness are coloring your process, give this thread a read for some data on clinical psych grad admissions. Might not be as bad as you assume! Good luck to all :)
Saw a great article on grad admissions. Here are recent annual US stats: law schools: 351,100 applications & 41,136 matriculated (~12%) med schools: 816,153 applications & 21,338 matriculated (~3%) doctoral clinical psych: 39,781 applications & 4,806 matriculated (~12%) 1/10

Y'all, I am so proud of this paper! ⬇️ Where we live can influence our likelihood of developing PTSD! But research on resilience after trauma has often focused on individual 🧍 factors and overlooked influential neighborhood 📷factors that may help mitigate the PTSD development
