Hey @gimkit — there seems to be a glitch on the Don’t Look Down game. When students close their Chromebooks and reopen them they are jumping up to 1000 altitude. My classes figured it out and there is RAMPANT cheating. Any chance it’ll be fixed so we can still play this mode?
#langchat — I need help! We are on a block schedule for the first time and I’m in need of fresh, new ideas for the first day! I’ve got an introductory level class and level 2 classes. Anyone do anything cool on the 1st day of school you’d be willing to share? :)
I took a huge hiatus from my professional social media for my mental health. I’m working my way back and missing my #langchat friends! Are we still Thursday night chatting or have times changed?
Ughh guess who put FEBRUARY 26th instead of January in their calendar and missed the proposal deadline for @actfl 2024 in Phili? So mad at myself! Anyone know if there’s wiggle room for those of us who neglect to double check our own calendar reminders? :(
A fun thing I can thank my ADHD for: if I SHOULD do a thing but don’t absolutely have to and encounter any type of roadblock in starting the thing, I just won’t. Even if I objectively want to. Thus why I’m watching my iPhone slowly die as I’m ignoring a knotted charger in my lap
The variable: the teacher’s shirt was on backwards and half the class was figuring out a way to tell her without being awkward about it (*definitely* a hypothetical and NOT something that actually absolutely happened to me 😅🙃)
Got my Common Grounds book signed by the wonderful @Marishawkins and @Prof_F_Henshaw at their booth in the expo center — feels like I met celebrities! #actfl2022
Hey #langchat! Any block schedule teachers out there willing to weigh in on their experience? My school is looking at a change and an A/B block is one. Some WL colleagues are worried that Ss won’t learn the language as efficiently without seeing us every day. /1
I student taught 12 yrs ago on a block and loved it but I am hoping for some perspectives of the pros/cons from someone with more block teaching experience! I’m on the committee to rethink our schedule so some outside opinions would be much appreciated at our next meeting 😃♥️ /2
Hey #langbook!!! I’m creeping on your tweets tonight but I don’t have the emotional energy to participate. I miss my #langchat community and I’m coming back to Twitter slowly over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for always giving me new things to think about! ♥️
Potentially unpopular opinion: if you can’t teach the whole curriculum without homework, your curriculum is the problem. Kids aren’t“quiet quitting” by expecting to only do work @ school. After 7-8 hrs of work, they should expect to protect their peace & find joy when they leave
Assessment/studying/practice work should be done at school and it’s a hill I’ll die on. **Does not apply to things like “elementary Ss should read 15 mins a day” as long as what and when they read is 100% THEIR CHOICE and they don’t have to do reading logs or book reports at home
Also, I do know that often teachers have little or no control over the curriculum & that sucks. But instead of writing snarky tweets about Ss “quiet quitting” because they don’t want h/w, I’d recommend putting that energy to advocating for curriculum change so they don’t have to
