i created this organization as a 15-year-old with untreated mental illness who felt incredibly alone.
i'm now a 25-year-old who's been in therapy for 2 1/2 years and takes medication to help manage my diagnoses.
for the first time in over a decade, i finally feel better.
you deserve help, no matter what your circumstances are. it doesn't matter that you don't "have it the worst." if you are having mental health issues, you deserve healing.
never let anyone tell you that you aren't deserving of love and support.
if you liked buddy project's content, i have a new account for mental health advocacy. you can follow my art page, gmf designs, on insta. instagram.com/gmf.designs
happy 9th birthday to buddy project!!!! i remember exactly how i felt when i was 15/16 and will never forget.
i was someone who wanted to help others not experience the same trauma i endured. i minimized my own mental health problems because i didn’t have it “bad enough.”
ALT hi everyone, it's gabby, the founder of buddy project! i'm sure a lot of you have noticed bp has been inactive for almost two years, as some of you have asked me about it on my personal and other accounts.
i wanted to make this post to let you all know that bp is on a hiatus. coming to this decision was difficult, as i always envisioned bp being a part of my life forever. but as i got older, i realized that it was really mental health advocacy that i wanted in my life forever.
it's been almost 9 (!!!) years since i made bp at the age of 15. i've grown a lot since then and realized i would prefer to advocate for mental health on a personal account that only *i* run. when bp was active, it was just me anyways. the only time i had help was in the very beginning.
ALT in the beginning of 2019, i started doing a "wallpaper wednesday" on bp where i used my then-developing digital art skills to create content for all of you. since i wanted to display my art on its own page, i created @gmf.designs in january 2019.
before we went on hiatus, people asked why bp kept posting gmf designs, and the whole reason was because both were solely run by me (lol) so it was a bit confusing to those who thought a team ran bp.
if you'd like to continue following my mental health advocacy, you can follow @gmf.designs. still the same type of posts as before, just behind an individual and not an organization. now that i'm in a better place mentally, i plan on posting about my personal experiences a lot more.
ALT i'm so grateful for everyone who's supported bp. this truly wouldn't exist without all of you. bp gave me the confidence to speak about mental health, and so much more, and for that i'll always be so grateful.
i'm still figuring out how i'd like to continue the buddy pairing aspect, as i'd love to keep doing it even if it's only me updating on a monthly basis. any future updates will be posted here.
thank you again for the past 9 years, it's wild to see how far i've come since being a 15 year old with undiagnosed mental health conditions that didn't receive the help she needed. remember that your problems matter even if they're not "the worst." you deserve love, support, and validation.
lots of love, gabby <3
