The thing about spending is that it's useless as a metric when detached from outcomes.
Take the PSOE party from Spain as an example. Following multiple deadly trainwrecks in the past few days, they scramble through their papers to justify that they've "in fact spent more money on public train systems than before."
Maybe they did, maybe they didn't.
That's not the point.
The point is: why should we care how much money you put INTO the system? All anyone cares about is what came OUT of it.
If you invested more millions than before and delivered more schedule delays, worse tracks, and more victims than ever... you're effectively outing yourself as incompetent, wasteful, and likely corrupt.
Results are the only competence metric that matters.
