After five years of collaboration, the Land, Soil and Crop Information Services to support Climate-Smart Agriculture in Eastern Africa (LSC-IS) project @ProjectLSC has successfully concluded with a regional closing event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Funded by the @EU_Commission DeSIRA Programme, the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs (@minbuza), and @ISRICorg, this five-year initiative (2021–2025) has strengthened data-driven agricultural decision-making in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Rwanda. At its core are the Land, Soil, and Crop Hubs digital platforms that consolidate and connect existing datasets to support evidence-based agricultural planning and climate-smart innovation. Implemented by Wageningen University & Research, with partners including @ISRICorg, @ILRI, @kalromkulima@EIAR@RwandaAgriBoard, @CIFOR_ICRAF, @IUCN, @ASARECA , and German Aerospace Center (DLR) @DLR_en, the project stands as a model of collaborative science and regional transformation. Congratulations to all partners and stakeholders for their shared commitment to advancing sustainable and climate-smart agriculture in Eastern Africa.

As we conclude a highly productive #Day2 of the Rwanda LSC-Hub workshop, the momentum continues to build. Dr. André Kooiman, Senior Sustainable Land Management Expert at @ISRICorg and @ProjectLSC Hubs Project Coordinator, commended the progress made in the development of the LSC-Hub, applauding the teams for their dedication to co-creating a platform that reflects the needs of farmers, institutions, and development partners. His remarks reinforced the importance of collaborative, data-driven approaches to achieving sustainable agricultural transformation. Dr. John Recha, Project Manager,@ILRI expertly facilitated an engaging round of group feedback, guiding participants through technical discussions on how the Hub can be refined to better serve end users across Rwanda’s agricultural landscape. Looking ahead to #Day3, discussions will shift to: ▶️Institutionalizing the LSC-Hub within Rwanda’s national agriculture systems ▶️ Establishing a robust monitoring and learning framework ▶️ Designing sustainable scaling strategies

Proud moment for the Land Soil Crop (LSC) Hubs Project! Musefa Redi Abegaz, a PhD candidate at Wageningen University & Research, whose research contributes to the LSC-IS Project @ProjectLSC, has published his first PhD research paper and presented the findings to participants at the LSC-Hub workshop in Addis Ababa. Title: "Mapping Soil Fertility Properties in Central Ethiopia at 100 m Spatial Resolution." The study employs digital soil mapping techniques to generate detailed, high-resolution 3D maps of soil fertility properties across the Shewa, Arsi, and Jimma zones. This cutting-edge research supports the LSC-IS project on: "Generating Quality-Assessed Soil and Crop Information to Support Climate-Smart Fertilizer Recommendations in Central Ethiopia." and marks a significant step toward evidence-based, climate-smart agricultural planning. Congratulations to Musefa and co-authors Gerard Heuvelink and Johan G.B. Leenaars on this milestone! 🔗 [Read the full paper here](lnkd.in/efic88-f) This work was proudly supported by the Land Soil Crop Hubs Project at ISRIC - World Soil Information. @ISRICorg #LSCHub #SoilMapping #ClimateSmartAg #SoilFertility #PhDResearch #WUR #ISRIC #GeospatialScience #EthiopiaAgriculture #DigitalAg #AgResearch #OpenAccessScience #DataDrivenAgriculture

#Day1 of the National Workshop on Advancing Climate-Smart Agriculture through Ethiopia’s LSC-Hub is in full swing at @ILRI, Addis Ababa. Today’s sessions focus on the technical foundation of the LSC-Hub, including: 🎯Architectural design 🎯Data compilation 🎯System building 🎯Soil, land, crop mapping 🎯Soil functional mapping 🎯Capacity building for hub content management Under #WorkPackage3, @ISRICorg is actively collaborating with Acatech Technology to co-design and co-develop the LSC-Hub, working closely with @MoA_Ethiopia and other key national partners. A major milestone is the integration of the LSC-Hub with Ethiopia’s National Agricultural Data Hub, ensuring interoperability, governance alignment, and infrastructure readiness to support national-scale agricultural digitization. The team also presents real-world use cases such as: - Soil and Water Conservation (SWC) - Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM) These use cases are being piloted in Basona Werana and Adami Tulu Jido Kombolcha districts, providing scalable models for future rollout across Ethiopia. @ILRI, @InstituteEiar, @ICRAF, @RwandaAgriBoard, @ProjectLSC, @kalromkulima, @EU_Commission.. #LSCHub #DigitalAg #SmartFarming #SmartAgriculture #SoilHealth #AgData #ClimateSmartAgriculture #Interoperability #DataDrivenFarming #Ethiopia #InnovationInAgriculture
