Today in 1992, David Milgaard is released from prison after spending 23 years there for a crime he didn't commit. In 1997, DNA evidence confirms he was innocent. He spends the rest of his life as a community support worker in Alberta before passing away in May 2022.

Last week, listening to The Tragically Hip’s “Wheat Kings” inspired by David Milgaard. When we met in 2019, David signed my copy. I told him that I would reform the wrongful conviction process, so no one would ever go through what he did. I hope I lived up to that promise.
