SCHOOL SMART IS NOT LIFE SMART: Why Your Mind Matters More Than Your Certificate (Reflection 6)
One hard truth many people don’t like to hear is this. Being intelligent in school is not the same as being intelligent in life.
School trains you to solve structured problems. Life throws unstructured problems at you. In school, questions have answers but in life, problems have options, risks, consequences, and sometimes no clear instructions.
That’s why someone can graduate with top grades and still struggle to run life successfully.
Because “school trains your brain to answer questions. Life tests your mind to create answers” ~Tejiomo
The dark truth is that school shapes us into One Direction of Thinking, yes! School teaches us how to follow a curriculum, obey instructions, pass exams, and think within a syllabus.
There is nothing wrong with that, It is useful and important. But life does not operate by syllabus. Life demands adaptability, creativity, emotional intelligence, resilience and decision-making under uncertainty.
Sometimes life requires our minds to turn 360 degrees because;
“Life problems don't come with marking schemes” ~Tejiomo
So you Can Go to School and Still Be Uneducated. This may sound uncomfortable, but it’s true. You can go to school and lack wisdom, lack purpose, lack problem-solving depth, and lack innovation because education is not the same as schooling. Schooling is institutional while Education is mental.
“Schooling fills the brain. Education builds the mind” ~Tejiomo
That’s why you can meet people who never went far in school but are wise, innovative, impactful, and successful in life and you can meet people with multiple degrees who are confused, bitter, and directionless. YOU CAN BE EDUCATED Without GOING TO SCHOOL. Education is the ability to think clearly, Learn continuously, solve problems and adapt knowledge to reality.
Many great minds developed themselves outside the four walls of a classroom.
Understand that "when your mind becomes educated, classrooms begin to study you.” ~Tejiomo
Please be aware that INNOVATION DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY COME FROM SCHOOL. School can give you knowledge, but innovation comes from curiosity, and impact comes from asking better questions, observing problems, experimenting with ideas and thinking beyond what was taught.
Many people leave school knowing what exists, but not knowing what can be created.
So, "Certificates prove your attendance but Impact proves understanding" ~Tejiomo
Please choose courses with awareness, not pressure. If you are going to study courses like medicine, law, aviation, engineering, or structured professions that require certification, school is necessary. But if you don’t yet know who you are, what you are wired for, or what problem you want to solve, you should pause and think. Don’t choose a course just because society respects it, family approves, and friends are doing it
Make sure to discover purpose before profession.
Because "when you choose a course without knowing yourself, you risk living someone else’s life" ~Tejiomo
Let me be clear on something, please. School is not bad, it is the confusion that is bad. Education is not anti-school; school is a tool, not a god. The problem starts when people believe education can only come from school.
So, School should shape you, not cage you.
Finally
Go to school if it aligns with your path. Learn skills that align with your calling. Build your mind regardless of where you are. Because in the end, life will not ask you: “What did you study?”
Life will ask: “What can you solve?”
“What can you build?”
“What can you adapt?”
And those answers don’t live on certificates.
They live in the mind.
