This follows a warehouse fire reported at approximately 02:00 this morning at the Amalgam Industrial Site in Langlaagte. City of Johannesburg EMS firefighters responded swiftly, preventing the fire from spreading to surrounding properties. The blaze destroyed a 2,000-square-metre warehouse, resulting in the collapse of exterior walls and the roof. No injuries were reported. ♦️Happening Now♦️ During visits to various outlets within the Braamfontein Precinct, the MMC observed a growing concern regarding limited regulatory oversight in some retail spaces. In particular, certain establishments operating as informal “5-in-1” shops were found to be selling a wide range of goods, including food items, snacks, thrift clothing, and books, often within a single unregulated setup. The Public Safety Department has raised these concerns with relevant authorities, and Environmental Health Services will conduct a full oversight inspection to assess compliance with health, safety, and trading regulations.
