We just hit 39,000 signatures on the Statement on AI Training.
Creators around the world reject the notion, espoused by some AI companies, that training AI on their work without a license is somehow good for them. Rather, it is a major & unjust threat.

If people tell you gen AI is a tool rather than a replacement for human creativity, show them this new data from Harvard Business Review:
- ChatGPT reduced writing jobs by 30% and coding jobs by 20%
- AI image generators reduced image creation jobs by 17%
- These numbers are not rebounding
- The effect is bigger and faster than with other forms of automation
It’s self-evident that generative AI competes with the work it’s trained on, and the people behind that work. But there is now a growing body of evidence to support this.

UK households paying the licence fee (24m households) are involuntarily funding AI companies, since the BBC’s content has been scraped from YouTube for AI training.
Why is the UK government planning to legalise this, instead of enforcing the law / strengthening protections?
(The BBC has ‘opted out’ of AI training, but opt-outs are ineffective, so there’s every sign their content is still being used.)
