50 Years. 4 Censuses. No Reallocation. India's Lok Sabha seat allocation has remained frozen since the 1971 Census, even as the country's demographic landscape has changed dramatically. As the freeze on delimitation approaches its end, a fundamental question emerges: How should India balance the principle of equal representation with the realities of federalism? PIC policy paper explores the constitutional, demographic, and governance dimensions of the delimitation debate—one of the most consequential public policy questions facing India today. The challenge is not whether change will come, but how it can be achieved with fairness, consensus, and constitutional integrity. 📖 Read the full paper: puneinternationalcentre.org/… @rameshmashelkar @dinakholkar @Girbane @aparanjape @PalshikarSuhas

Throughout the year, PIC brings together thought leaders from diverse fields to exchange ideas on leadership, innovation, public policy, science, culture, and society. “Aspirations are your possibilities. Keep them high, because the power of an idea is often greater than the power of a budget.” - Dr. R. A. Mashelkar (@rameshmashelkar), President, PIC. A thought that resonates strongly with PIC’s mission of fostering dialogue, research, and transformative thinking. @dinakholkar @Girbane @aparanjape

Book Launch | The Inspired Leader: Seven Practices to Unlock Your Leadership Potential Today we hosted the launch of 'The Inspired Leader' by Anil Sachdev, Founder & Chairman, SOIL, followed by an engaging panel discussion featuring: Anil Sachdev, General Manoj Pande (Retd.) – PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, and Ashish Bhandari (MD & CEO, Thermax), moderated by Dr. Ranjan Banerjee, Vice Chancellor, Nayanta University. Opening the evening, Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, FRS – President, PIC reflected on the transformative power of aspirations, ideas, and leadership that enables people to realise their own potential. He reminded the audience that while resources matter, the power of an idea can often be far greater. Drawing from diverse experiences across leadership, business, and public service, the panel explored what it takes to inspire others. Anil Sachdev spoke about leadership as an inward journey rooted in purpose and self-awareness. General Manoj Pande highlighted the importance of character, competence, commitment, and conduct in developing leaders, while Ashish Bhandari reflected on the role of curiosity, resilience, honesty, and integrity in navigating challenges and building teams. The discussion offered thoughtful perspectives on leadership as a practice—one that begins with leading oneself and grows through purpose, responsibility, and continuous learning. @rameshmashelkar @anilsachdev @RanjanBanerjee1 @dinakholkar @Girbane @aparanjape

The NHS in the UK and ESIC in India share similar origins. Yet today, the NHS is a global benchmark for inclusive healthcare, while ESIC has languished due to weak governance, neglect, and limited awareness. Despite having a corpus of over ₹1 lakh crore, ESIC remains underutilized. Its shortcomings are not a failure of design, but of execution. India cannot afford to lose one of its few worker-centric social safety nets, with the potential to serve nearly 15 crore people. Article in @DeccanHerald By Dr. Ajit Ranade, Senior Fellow, PIC. 🌿 Celebrating World Environment Day at PIC, in association with @ecologicalsoc Over the last two days, PIC transformed into a vibrant space for conversations, creativity, and community action. The celebrations also brought together cyclists, nature enthusiasts, artists, and citizens through interactive games, performances, and shared experiences—reminding us that sustainability is not just a concept, but a way of life built through collective action. As the day drew to a close beneath a beautiful evening sky, one message stood out: a greener future begins with communities that choose to care, connect, and act together. 🌍💚 @rameshmashelkar @dinakholkar @Girbane @aparanjape @arti60

Dr. Vijay Kelkar writes on energy security... do read - "India's vulnerability is structural. We have built an economy that requires large and growing volumes of imported hydrocarbons, while domestic production has not kept pace." "If domestic oil and gas production has languished, we should not treat it as fate. It reflects incentives, stability, contracting confidence and state's ability to carry an long-term programme beyond political cycles." @PuneIntCentre
