If your DEI practices don’t include protections from an ongoing pandemic, you’re excluding disabled & high risk people which means…you’re not practicing equity inclusivity

BREAKING: Canada has now lost more lives to COVID than we did in all of World War II. 44370 Canadians have died from Covid, including my father. And if you think it’s “almost over,” remember that more have died of Covid this year already than in 2020 or 2021.

How can students 'excel' when they have to worry about catching COVID from un-masked peers and spreading it to their loved ones? For students to 'excel,' they need a learning environment that is safe, equitable, & accessible -- not one that treats their lives as disposable.

cw: COVID-19 The @McMasterU President and Provost wrote that "[a]s a society, we are finding balance" in COVID management; however, it's a society that does not account for disabled or immunocompromised people, that does not keep its empty commitments, that does not care.
Classes start in a couple of weeks and this is what @McMasterU has re precautions: - no mask mandate - no vaccine mandate - no physical distancing requirements - no longer requiring students to report positive cases - no longer sharing data on the number of cases on campus

Check out this handy guide to elastomeric half-mask respirators, created by a friend of Push Back On Mac! With the start of classes just a few weeks away, and no COVID protections in place, elastomeric respirators are a great option for staying safe(r) on campus.

Because elastomeric respirators use replaceable filters that last longer than disposable masks, they're also a great option for sustainability and reducing waste. Although the masks themselves have an up-front cost, the longer-lasting filters can make them cheaper over time.
