Watch "Eyes of the Rainbow: The Assata Shakur Story," a brilliant documentary about one of our most ethical freedom fighters. She died free in Cuba, despite being sought by the FBI for decades after being liberated from prison. May she rest in power. youtube.com/watch?v=wZvkCkKY…

Thanks so much Adam. I really enjoy your op-eds, especially when you go out of your way to be an asshole to nonbinary and trans people, so this feedback means a lot to me. 😘

This is a shallow op-ed, padded with vapid cliches, that fails to meaningfully address why people objected to your disruption of the event.

I have no data to back me up. But anecdotally, the vaste majority of flight attendants are women and/or queer people. Women and queer people made to do unpaid labour by Air Canada. That's not something to forget or ignore here.

In 2024 @BonitaZarrillo questioned AC about unpaid work done by flight attendants. AC’s overpaid CEO refused to comment. PM Carney is bailing him out. There is more integrity in the fingernail of a flight attendant than Mark Carney’s entire government. #UnpaidWorkWontFly
Watch as I confront the CEO of Air Canada about the unacceptable treatment of flight attendants who work tirelessly, yet often unpaid. It's time for airlines to prioritize fairness and respect for their hardworking employees. Let's stand together in support of #UnpaidWorkWontFly

Thank you Alex and to all my colleagues who joined in signing this letter and for the work being done to call out war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and Canada’s failure to stop the thousands of senseless deaths and injuries. Canada must intervene to end genocide now.
Our full page plea to PM @MarkJCarney in today's @TorontoStar, begging him to do more to end genocide in Gaza. For there is much more that Canada could & should, in fact is obliged, to do in the face of genocide. And we should have done so months and months ago. Almost two months ago, on June 9th in advance of hosting the G7 Summit, 500 law professors, lawyers, academics, former ambassadors, and civil society, faith and labour leaders wrote to him. We implored him to take advantage of that leadership opportunity to catalyze G7 action to end the genocide: alexneve.ca/blog/prime-minis… Instead, there was G7 silence. We have yet to have any acknowledgement of our letter from either PM Carney or Minister @AnitaAnandMP, let alone a substantive response to the detailed, concrete recommendations (legal obligations) we presented. Not a single word. That we've had no reply is not okay. But more to the point, that there has still been no meaningful action and only more empty words that are never backed up with consequence, is deplorable. So we've repeated those recommendations. We expect and demand action. We refuse to allow this despicable failure and craven refusal to end genocide to stain our collective national conscience. torontostar.pressreader.com/… (page A5)

As Pride Month wraps up, we take a look at the pioneering LGBTQ comedian and activist Robin Tyler. In 1979, Tyler became the first out lesbian comic to appear on national television. She used both her humor and her platform to become an important voice in the push for LGBTQ rights and equality. @johnyangtv sat down with Robin Tyler for more.

Sorry @MarkJCarney NO - Iran wasn't building nuclear weapons and whatever we think of Iran's regime attacking a sovereign country on false information = Iraq deja vu all over again...
Iran’s nuclear programme is a grave threat to international security, and Canada has been consistently clear that Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon.     While U.S. military action taken last night was designed to alleviate that threat, the situation in the Middle East remains highly volatile. Stability in the region is a priority.   Canada calls on parties to return immediately to the negotiating table and reach a diplomatic solution to end this crisis. As G7 leaders agreed in Kananaskis, the resolution of the Iranian crisis should lead to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.

Sure we've got some corporations doing some symbolic stuff but don't confuse that with power. And yeah, we've had some important wins to advance inclusion. All the result of people working tirelessly, usually without pay, and over decades, to build a better world.

Having a dedicated Minister for girls and gays is the LOWEST HANGING FRUIT so you bet I'm going to be unhappy and loud about it of our Prime Minister fails to appointment a Minister for Women, Gender Equality and 2SLGBTQIA Communities.

For #MothersDay2025 please donate if you can to this grassroots fundraiser for Black & Indigenous mothers who have lost loved ones to the terror of policing in Canada. Unlike in 2020, there is now little support for crucial on the ground work like so your contribution matters!

Is it woke to implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 calls to action? Poilievre's plans for mandatory minimum sentences, less access to bail, and restricting the serving of criminal sentences in the community all go directly against the TRC recommendations
