QLDer through and through, but Cleary’s skill and greatness are simply undeniable

Good conversations around the rules. It’s not about right or wrong, it’s about how the game’s played, how it evolves, and how we make it better for everyone. Some strong ideas came through, and I’ve got a few more to discuss

I’ve been watching a lot of Rugby lately, and it got me thinking about how we could speed the game up and open it up a bit more. One idea I had, hear me out. To encourage more offloads and reduce the number of rucks, what if when a team knocks the ball on, they’re not allowed to touch it next which currently results in a scrum. If they do, it’s a long arm penalty. That gives the opposition guaranteed first rights to the ball. They can pick it up and play immediately with a backward pass, or if they want to slow it down, it could work similar to an AFL mark and you have 10 seconds to resume play or it’s a turn over again. If you step off the mark, you’re live and can be tackled. The goal is simple, reward teams that want to play fast, create more chaos, and reduce stoppages? Questions - would this ruin our beautiful game and allow less skilled players to play (which is what most people want inclusivity) Would it make it slower? Faster? There’s nothing wrong with our game?

The part of the game I’m struggling to enjoy right now is the number of long cut out passes being thrown. Bit ironic really, considering I probably threw more than anyone back in the day 🙃

Shout out to coach Dave Rennie. After the way he was treated by our administration in Australia, to now find himself with arguably the biggest job in rugby feels like a little bit of karma. We let one of the best coaches in the game go. Not only did we let him go, we pushed him out the door. So seeing him land on his feet like this, I’m genuinely happy for him. The “what could have been” might still come back to bite us, especially with a home World Cup coming in hot. Funny how the universe works sometimes. Congrats to the All Blacks for appointing not just a top coach, but a good man who understands that the game is about people first. That will play a huge role in their culture. PS. You’re the enemy now though 🤝✊🏽🤎

Watched the Wallabies replay this morning and damn, it was a tough watch. I genuinely feel for the players, because it’s clear they’re operating without a real system that gives them a chance to create good match ups. I’ve said it before, but their structure keeps putting them in bad areas of the field, and when that happens the only option left is hoping someone can produce a moment of individual brilliance. No team can thrive like that.

My take on the Wallabies’ current 10 situation, the state of our attack, and the path forward that makes sense. codesports.com.au/rugby-unio…

Here’s one easy way that rugby could be a better spectacle - referee allowing the the 9 to tap the ball slightly off the mark in a close radius behind the scrum 😅😭 let the game play no one wants to see a bomb after a free kick

There are moments you find yourself in places you didn’t choose, doing things you don’t feel like doing. Yet deep down, something tells you you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.. ❤️

As for Tane. I would like to apologize. I’ve been in that position, I know how tough it is. I don’t ever want to be one of those ex-players who just sit on the sidelines throwing shade. I’d rather offer perspective and encouragement than add to the noise. 🙏🏽❤️

Just for the news outlets - it wasn’t a brutal swipe at Tane Edmed, I just don’t think he should be playing test match rugby for Australia right now. If he’s the best that we have in the most pivotal position in the game in all of Australia. Tell me one top tier country he could replace their top 2 10s?

The player we should be targeting to get back is Carter Gordan. With good coaching systems now in place he would absolutely flourish and using the depth of Ben Donaldson, Tom lynagh and old head James Oconnor

So for me is he a good player yeah he’s ok but is he a test match 10? I’m my opinion no. Does that mean he can’t be in time..
