Humanoid robots are a product looking for a customer. Narrow applications aren't going to get sales up to the scale needed to fund the research still required for widespread application. So you get this supply driven market.

There's still people advocating for artificial gravity with a NASA astronaut perspective and no-one calls them out on it. ~12 months in zero-g is a solved problem. If you want artificial gravity, you need to be talking about tourists or free-space colonization. Otherwise no.

The problem with vertical integration is the competing-with-suppliers thing. Every time you buy something the supplier knows you'll be looking to copy them or otherwise eliminate them from the supply chain eventually. You may even revolutionize their industry, driving them out.
