All the best to Marcus Cavaroli. He was the man on the spot for all things @DroghedaUnited for over two and a half decades of glory and grit. Called it without fear or favour
Nice piece from Marcus here as he bows out after many years covering @DroghedaUnited. He’ll be missed. independent.ie/county/louth/…

It was a privilege to report on an historic Irish win in the Giants Stadium 32 years ago where Paul McGrath was immense, a colossus. To think he nearly didn’t play because of a frozen shoulder. A certainty for any all-time Irish XI.

The Irish @Everton have left their mark…from Farrell, Eglinton, O’Neill, Donovan and Clinton in the 1950s to Meagan in the 60s, then Sheedy and later, Kilbane, Carsley, among others including Jake O’Brien. Few carried the blue flame with greater distinction than Seamus Coleman.

A fine mark of respect from @padraig_h to @gregallenRTE for his recognition at this week’s Irish Sports Industry awards. One top pro salutes another.
The Federation hosted the annual Irish Sport Industry Awards on Tuesday, celebrating excellence and sport’s value to the Irish economy. 🏆RTÉ’s Greg Allen received the Jimmy Magee Award for Sports Coverage. Paying special tribute was 3-time Major Champion Pádraig Harrington.⛳️

Congrats to Paul Lennon, President of @ASJIsportsjourn on his election to the office of Treasurer in @AIPSmedia 1924 Europe. Paul is a former Treasurer and President of @SoccerWritersIr . A safe pair of hands.

It was a privilege to represent the @SoccerWritersIr at today’s golf classic @Castleknockgolf for the Irish Professional Footballers, whose ranks included Pat Byrne birthday boy and legend.

Very sad news. I have childhood memories of watching Noel playing for @bfcdublin in that title winning season over 50 years ago. May he Rest In Peace.
Everyone at Bohemians wishes to extend our deepest condolences to the family of our former player Noel Mitten, a league winner under Billy Young in 1975, who has sadly passed away: bohemians.ie/noel-mitten-rip…

Nowhere like it links golf anywhere on the island….the towering dunes and crumpled turf tied to both seaside and village in timeless harmony. Old Tom of St Andrew’s must have felt at home when he mapped the original lay-out.
There’s something truly magical about Lahinch Golf Club.

Nowhere in golf quite like Lahinch, ‘where the sea shines like a jewel….’
Former Walker Cup players Jody Fanagan, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth & Scottie Scheffler recall their fondest memories of the Walker Cup, and their experiences at Lahinch Golf Club Tickets are on sale via Go.randa.org/WalkerCupTicket… 🇬🇧🇮🇪🇺🇸

Hard not to feel for Heimir H and ROI, esp vets Seamus Coleman and Robbie Brady. Such tiny margins. A needless jersey tug, the woodwork and a kamikaze shoot-out (78% chance of winning at 3-2). Szmodics KO a blow. Imagine the buzz for Denmark game? No one wants to play Tue now.

Gt work by @_MattyTurnbull. On weeks like this, I miss the reporting gig, watching training, attending pressers, the big match buzz. All the best to Heimir H and the players in Prague. Nothing pulls the nation together like a World Cup showdown for the ROI.
Spent a good 3 weeks piecing this together but was not expecting the reaction its got 💚🇮🇪

A legend, a warrior and a gent.
SWI send their condolences following the passing of 1990 Men’s Personality of the Year Damien Byrne. Captaining St Patrick’s Athletic to their first league title for 34 was recognised with the award. He’d won the Northern Ireland equivalent 3 years earlier playing for Ards. RIP
