The Realty Advisory Board on Labor Relations, Inc. is a multi-employer association serving the real estate industry in NYC, L.I., Westchester, CT & Northern NJ.
(1/2) At 12:50AM last night the RAB reached a tentative labor agreement with @32BJSEIU. RAB President Howard Rothschild said: “We’re proud to come to an agreement that reflects the economic realities that commercial real estate faces…
(2/2) … by creating the flexibility the industry needs to survive for the long-term. Thank you to Manny Pastriech and the entire 32BJ team for working with us to find solutions that will benefit our workers and our industry.”
(1/3) “The New York City commercial real estate industry is facing unprecedented challenges. Covid has created a new paradigm for remote work, with the vast majority of tenants currently in the office three days per week, or less.
(2/3) Vacancy rates have correspondingly skyrocketed and are projected to remain that way for years to come. Without changes to increase flexibility in our CBA, the future of the industry and our workers is in jeopardy.
(3/3) Now is time for the union and industry to roll up our sleeves and come together to negotiate a contract that will provide for a sustainable future.” - Statement from Howard Rothschild, President of the Realty Advisory Board on Labor Relations
Congratulations to our President Howard Rothschild on being named to the @amNewYork and @PoliticsNYnews Real Estate and Development Power Players list! #powerplayers
The agreement builds on the important work RAB and 32BJ accomplished together throughout the pandemic – protecting jobs and maintaining solid health benefits – and further shows the industry’s respect and appreciation for our essential workers with a substantial bonus.
The industry is proud to have reached a fair agreement that will continue to create and support middle class jobs for more than 30,000 workers over the next four years.
As we continue negotiations over the coming weeks, we aim to continue showing how collaboration between labor and management creates the conditions for an industry to not only endure the tough times, but to succeed together afterward.
Today we shared our proposal to @32BJSEIU, including fair & reasonable wage increases and sharing of healthcare costs through employee contributions to the premiums, of which employees currently pay zero.
Today, we commenced new residential contract negotiations with @32BJSEIU. We were proud to join together to focus on what’s most important and take a moment of silence to recognize and mourn the loss of employees and family members that passed during the COVID-19 pandemic
We are proud to have reached a fair deal with @32BJSEIU that thoughtfully considered the regulatory and legislative challenges – as well as a softening real estate market – facing the industry.
Today marked our 4th negotiation session with @32BJSEIU and we continue to move closer to another successful and fair contract for both sides. We remain hopeful that we will reach an agreement by December 31st.
Negotiations between the RAB and @32BJSEIU are continuing to move forward productively. Today, the parties sat down, rolled up their sleeves, and pressed ahead with the hard work of bargaining.
The RAB and @32BJSEIU have a history of successful bargaining, based on mutual respect, which has led to uninterrupted labor agreements for more than twenty years.
Highlights of our proposal to @32BJSEIU include fair & reasonable wage increases - keeping our commercial building workers one of the highest paid in the country - and sharing of healthcare costs.
The relationship between the #nycre industry and @32BJSEIU is one of the best in the country. Together we support more than 62,000 middle class jobs that are helping to make the American Dream possible.
