Seeing the end of the terrorist era in Benghazi is a relief. We fought these terrorists for one night, but in the aftermath of our attacks they went on to kill thousands more of innocent people across the region including more Americans. What changed Benghazi’s future was the people themselves standing up, backing the Libyan National Army, and taking the fight directly to the terrorists. The cost was enormous. So many lives were lost in this fight. But returning and seeing families living freely again, women chatting together openly at coffee shops, and children growing up without the constant threat of terrorist indoctrination was powerful. That is what victory against terrorism actually looks like. No one ever tells you the success stories or shows you how much has to be put back together after the reign of terrorists.
