It is with great sadness that hear about the passing of Ray Newton, co-founder of the History of Wapping Trust, set up in 1984. Its members hope to pay tribute to Ray during its 40th year. Ray often spoke at our RBLHS meetings and events; we send our condolences to his family.

We’ve had a request from a follower: “Can anybody help with images of New Archers Wharf (as it then was, now New Archers Court) before it was converted to flats in 2007? It’s the building next to Princes Tower - 99 Rotherhithe Street. I would be so grateful.” Can you help?

Hello, from one of our followers: "I am searching for photos or drawings of slum/flats in Foxlow & Wells St. in Bermondsey (≈1863-1875) where Emba St. and Wilsons Grove estates are now. Several news articles and reports say how awful they were, but no photos." Can anyone help?

Thank you Malcolm Russell aka @MudHistorian for an enlightening (haha) talk @RBHistory on London as a city of vice, as revealed through mudlarked objects. I particularly liked his line, “flagellation was ‘a thing’ in 18th-century London” 😜
