June 14th 1982: The oddest document I'll ever post is dated today: the UK Government responding to reports of alien and UFO activity in and over the Falklands and the Task Force. The last line is brilliant: "Presumably little green men in ponchos" 🤣
June 14th 1982: By evening, CBS reports the riots in Buenos Aires after the Argentine surrender in the Falklands is announced, and the beginning of the myth that Argentina fought the USA/NATO: it still persists today...

June 14th 1982: Throughout the day, Falkland Islanders cook chips and hand out cups of tea to their liberators. Most stay indoors due to the dangers of munitions and jubilant troops, but they are relieved that there is no more "Puerto Argentino" and that "Port Stanley" is back.
June 14th 1982: As prisoners are processed, they are sent off to the airport isthmus, where most mill around, unsure what to do or what will happen to them. However, the work of processing all of them will take several days, and there are more prisoners to come...

June 14th 1982: The piles of Argentine weapons are simply vast, and include FAL Rifles, MAG Machine Guns, Rocket Launchers, Magnum Rifles, Mortars, Pistols, Knives, Grenades and much more besides. A count of the equipment captured will be undertaken, but not today...

June 14th 1982: Though most of the Task Force are celebrating, the crew of HMS Yarmouth are to get a surprise. They are ordered to RAS and load up with 145 days' worth of stores and sail for South Georgia and then on with a Task Group to the South Sandwich Islands...
June 14th 1982: Overnight, the STUFT ship MV Contender Bezant arrived in the Falklands. Converted to a 'Harrier/Helo/Transport' she sailed in company with MV St Edmund on May 20th, carrying a Sea King, two Wasps and three much-needed Chinooks, plus stores and equipment...

June 14th 1982: Galtieri is due to give a speech from the balcony of the Casa Rosada, but the public is turning nasty, so he broadcasts on the radio instead. Looking for an excuse, he now claims that Argentina has only lost because it was fighting all of NATO: the people go mad.
June 14th 1982: Though the Junta claims that its soldiers are still fighting and winning, word starts to reach Argentina. At first, people disbelieve it, but the truth is inescapable, and the people begin to march on the Casa Rosada for answers, to see if it's true...

June 14th 1982: The Junta denies any surrender, but a statement is issued to the UN stating that the UK has "broken Argentine defences with the aid of high technology weapons, many unknown on the international arms market. The Malvinas have been transformed into a test site."

June 14th 1982: In NYC, Anthony Parsons calls on Perez de Cuellar and reads him Thatcher's statement to the Commons. He then tells him bluntly in regards to the dispute that; "We have said nothing to encourage the speculation about a future role for the United Nations..."

June 14th 1982: Margaret Thatcher announces in Parliament that Argentina has surrendered "some 11,000 men in Port Stanley and some 2,000 in West Falkland. In addition, we had already captured 1,800 prisoners, making some 15,000 prisoners of war now in our hands..."

June 14th 1982: A Gallup Poll taken in Argentina of 952 people poses the question, who will win the Falklands War: 79% say Argentina will win, 17% say they aren't sure, only 4% of people think Britain will win. Perhaps nothing says "propaganda" better... Britain has already won.
