Morans Step Forward as Peace Ambassadors in Samburu. @FCDCKenya,through the @RANGEprogramme and in collaboration with #WestGate Community Conservancy, successfully convened a two-day dialogue forum bringing together Morans, elders, and National Government Administration Officers from the Waso West villages of Naisunyai, Sukuroi, Remote, Lempaute, Ngutuk Ongiron, Sasaab, Lpus-Leluai, and Kiltamany in Samburu County. The dialogue provided a platform for constructive engagement on peace, security, social cohesion, and sustainable rangeland management, while strengthening the role of Morans as peace ambassadors within their communities. As a result of the engagement, the participants made the following commitments: ✅ Morans committed to champion peace within and across communities by reducing aggression, banditry, and livestock theft, while actively promoting peaceful coexistence. ✅ Morans pledged to serve as peace agents and raise awareness among their fellow Morans on the importance of dialogue, non-violence, and conflict prevention. ✅ Participants committed to observing and respecting traditional migration routes and grazing patterns in line with established rangeland management protocols to minimize resource-based conflicts. ✅ Morans agreed to strengthen community-based early warning systems by sharing timely information with elders and relevant authorities on emerging threats and potential conflicts. ✅ Morans committed to identifying and reporting individuals involved in criminal activities and other actions that undermine peace and security within their communities. ✅ Elders, Morans, and local administration reaffirmed their commitment to working together to strengthen traditional conflict resolution mechanisms and community-led peacebuilding efforts. ✅ They committed to enhancing collaboration with conservancies, government institutions, and development partners to advance sustainable peace, security, and responsible natural resource management. The dialogue reaffirmed the critical role of Morans as agents of positive change and demonstrated the power of intergenerational engagement in building peaceful, resilient, and prosperous communities across Samburu County.

Cross-County Peace & Cohesion Update – Samburu (#Waso), Marsabit (#Laisamis) & Isiolo (#Chari) Our ongoing peace initiative brought together communities, leaders, women, and moran from the three counties to strengthen dialogue, address grievances, and build lasting cooperation. Supported by @NLinKenya of the Kingdom of the Netherlands through @FCDCKenya -#RANGE Program , the engagement focused on peaceful grazing agreements, mediator training, and empowering Pastoralist Associations to promote harmony at a landscape level. The collaborative spirit was strong communities shared concerns but also clear commitments to work together for sustainable peace. Action plan is MCAs from Waso and Chari Wards, National government, County officers will visit key grazing sites tomorrow to assess relocation areas and ensure livestock movement happens peacefully. Where grazing in neighboring communities’ land is needed, leaders will engage and seek consent through proper dialogue. Together, we are promoting peaceful resource sharing and strengthening inter-county cohesion.

Why @FCDCKenya is part of the #HOGDP team? #FCDC plays a central role in ensuring this transformative road project truly serves the people of Northern Kenya. As the regional body for frontier counties, we bring community perspectives directly into the heart of implementation, making sure local voices guide decisions on a project of this scale. Our role strengthens transparency, boosts accountability, and provides independent eyes on progress, safeguards, and contractor performance. We also help coordinate county leadership, resolve issues early, and keep communication flowing between communities, @KeNHAKenya and the @WorldBankKenya . By bridging national agencies with the realities on the ground, #FCDC ensures #HOGDP delivers not just a road—but lasting economic opportunities, safer mobility, and stronger regional connectivity for the millions who rely on this corridor every day.

The ongoing County Pastoralist Associations (CPA) Conference in #Leisamis, Marsabit County, brings together pastoralist leaders, members of County Pastoralist Associations, elders, women, youth, and government officials from #Isiolo, #Marsabit, and #Samburu counties, under the coordination of the Frontier Counties Development Council @FCDCKenya.#RANGE The three-day conference, which kicked off on 11th November and runs until 13th November, serves as a powerful platform for dialogue on shared challenges such as cross-border conflicts, resource competition, and climate-related pressures affecting pastoral livelihoods. Participants have reaffirmed the importance of unity and collaboration through indigenous institutions, community peace structures, and inclusive land governance frameworks. The discussions have also underscored the growing role of County Pastoral Associations in linking communities with government and private sector actors, promoting resilience, and strengthening peace across borders. What is emerging from Leisamis is a renewed spirit of partnership and a collective commitment to move from dialogue to action— fostering lasting peace, sustainable resource management, and a vibrant pastoral economy across the northern frontier counties.
