I am calling to demand that the Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz drop all the charges against Prakash Churaman. Prakash was forced into giving a false confession at the age of 15 by a cop with a history of misconduct. There was no DNA evidence to support Prakash's conviction and the state appellate court ruled that the prosecution's evidence is not overwhelming. Prakash has suffered for over 7 years now. We know this is a part of the history of the Queens DA's office which has been known to hurt Black and brown youth in our communities. Melinda Katz has the opportunity to right the wrongs which have historically been associated with the DA's office by dropping the charges against Prakash. She can show us that she has an interest in our communities. Will Melinda Katz do the right thing and show us she cares for our children and communities? Can we count on her to keep our families safe?
