“Should be required reading for every CEO, union leader, and politician in America.” —Evan Osnos
In seeking to oust Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook, President Trump attacks a likely ally on interest rates who happens to be the first Black woman in the job.

"If it is clear who has been harmed by free trade, it is equally apparent who has prospered the most: multinational companies that have moved operations abroad and their financiers." Read @RWartzman on Trump's tariffs:

"As tariffs dominate the headlines, [Trump's] administration is quietly putting into place what can best be described as an anti-worker agenda," writes @rwartzman. And the tariffs themselves? They won't help workers, either:

Layoffs. Cuts to healthcare and food assistance. $300 toasters?! Is this what it means to stand up for the American worker? @rwartzman on tariffs and Trump's anti-worker agenda:

Tariffs gave us U.S.-built pickup trucks and made South Korea an industrial powerhouse. But they're not a magic bullet that brings back jobs—especially not when they're levied indiscriminately:

@RWartzman Wartzman's latest @WSJ piece spotlights a company you've likely never heard of, yet it has an enormous footprint: @Prologis , the world's largest industrial property company. What's most remarkable is Prologis's consistently high ranking for employee engagement in the WSJ Management Top 250 list.
Their success stems from empowering employees with real authority regardless of rank, including rotating middle managers in high-stakes investment committees, and fostering an environment where even newer team members feel like they're trusted experts. CEO Hamid Moghadam's direct communication style and skin in the game (never selling shares) set the tone.
I'm grateful to Rick for our conversation about why, sadly, such progressive practices remain rare--and what to do about it (hint: it takes real conviction and perseverance).

"As you dig into that Labor Day hot dog, it is a good time to remember: When employees’ voices are ignored or squelched, it is terrible for workplace democracy." —@RWartzmanzps.la/3stegYX
Companies have been adding employees to help meet emissions goals and ensure that supply chains aren’t disrupted by weather events. It seems to be paying off. READ MORE from our @RWartzman & Kelly Tang in @WSJ: wsj.com/business/c-suite/cli…
FACT: Even before the pandemic, the economy slowed under Trump.
More jobs were created in President Obama’s last three years than in Trump’s first three. forbes.com/sites/chuckjones/…
