If letting a critical national security tool to help prevent terrorist attacks lapse at midnight tonight is a “strategic decision,” would hate to see a non-strategic decision. Dems walked away from a bipartisan deal they helped craft and blocked a short-term extension.

“Strategic decisions” = creating the longest shutdown in history (forcing natl security employees to go unpaid), fully embracing a defund-the-police agenda, and letting one of America’s top tools to prevent terrorist attacks to lapse. Would hate to see non-strategic decisions.
NEW: Schumer spent the last year being a proverbial punching bag for angry Democrats. But with ~five months until the election, he believes some of his bets are paying off with the party in striking distance of retaking the majority. “We made a lot of strategic decisions that got us to this place, it didn’t happen by accident" (More in IC from Schumer tomorrow) politico.com/news/2026/06/11…

Proving this has nothing to do with Pulte — he doesn’t even assume the role for another week. This is another episode of legislative hostage-taking that puts America’s national security at risk.
Replying to @frankthorp
Leader THUNE tries to unanimously pass a ONE week extension of FISA Section 702 instead, calling Dems' stance "untenable, irresponsible." Sen WYDEN objected again.

Top Democrat on the Intel Committee concedes that his party's decision to withhold votes on FISA is a "high risk proposition."
Asked Sen. Warner what happens if this expires. “what we believe, and we'll see, and what we were told in 2024 when we were racing to get it done by midnight, is that the communication providers, the TelCos, Googles, and the others. If they don't come carry the indemnification that the law provides them, that won't provide this information. So we don't know the answer to that, but it is an obviously a high risk proposition”

Democrats have made legislative hostage-taking a mainstay of their reckless agenda.
Democrats have made it clear this year that for them, it’s always politics over policy. Republicans will continue to do everything we can to keep our country and our communities secure.

The Senate has now confirmed more appellate and district court judges in Trump's second term than it had at the same point in his first term. Senate Republicans have always been committed to confirming constitutionalist judges to the federal bench, and that won't stop.

Democrats objected to extending the same 702 authorities that exist today, and the same ones they agreed to extend 40-plus days ago, for another three weeks. This, of course, comes after they voted against the bipartisan, long-term deal they helped draft. Makes sense, right?

This is a familiar page out of the Dems' playbook: "It's not the fact that we're actively withholding the votes for [insert bill], it's that Republicans won't [insert demand]." Add FISA to the long list of legislative hostages that Democrats have taken during the 119th Congress.
Replying to @JakeSherman
Asked about Dems blocking FISA during World Cup etc, Jeffries said: “Donald Trump's reckless decision to elevate Bill @pulte as the acting director of national intelligence is endangering America's national security.”

Democrats walking away from a carefully crafted bipartisan/bicameral deal while simultaneously rejecting a commonsense short-term extension ... sound familiar?
News: Consensus from Senate Dem lunch just now is NO DEAL on short-term FISA 702 extension unless Bill Pulte is gone.

“Does this look like a billionaire tax cut to you? ... “97 percent of Americans who filed their taxes this year got a tax cut. "This is real tax relief for hardworking Americans. “And the American people are seeing it with their own eyes.”
Thanks to the Working Families @TaxCuts, 97 percent of taxpayers got a tax cut this year, collectively saving $82 billion on their tax bills. Almost every one of the 97 percent of American taxpayers who saw a tax cut this year earned less than $200,000.

Last fall, Dems shut down the entire fed gov’t, threatening nat’l security. During this year’s shutdown, they owned a “defund the police” position, further threatening nat’l security. Now they’re walking away from a bipartisan FISA deal … threatening nat’l security once again.
Democrats want to defund the intelligence-gathering capability that has been responsible for 90% of synthetic drug disruptions enabled by the CIA and has prevented terrorist attacks. FISA Section 702 is a tool for national security, and it needs to be reauthorized.

"Who was it that benefited from the Working Families @TaxCuts?
“Well, I’ll give you a hint: It’s in the name. “Working families. “Almost every one of the 97 percent of American taxpayers who saw a tax cut this year earned less than $200,000." @LeaderJohnThune

From Politico story: "Proving Republicans can ignore Democratic demands ... and still pump unprecedented funding to the agencies" Democrats walked away from negotiation after negotiation and staked out a left-wing defund-the-police position, but yeah, it was Republicans' fault🙄

This morning, Sen. Schumer called Border Patrol a "discredited" agency (reminder they ended the Biden Border Crisis). He previously said "nobody respects" them. Politics is often about differences, and the difference between Rs and Ds on this issue couldn't be more distinct.

Hello from a “strategic location.”
Red Line: Customers will experience delays in both directions due to a signal problem at Fort Totten. Some trains will offload at strategic locations to minimize train traffic.
