How is modern American capitalism filled with so many low quality leaders constantly failing upwards into more senior positions? Wasn't capitalism supposed to weed out these individuals? And only reward performance and execution? I have my theories of how we got here....

It's really surreal to think that Loving v Virginia was only in 1967.

Can someone please help me understand why conservatives are so scared of rainbows?

theguardian.com/us-news/2023… "North Carolina’s congressional delegation is likely to go from its current even split to 10-4 or 11-3 in favor of Republicans, despite the state having fewer registered Republicans than either Democrats or unaffiliated voters." Is this democracy?

NEW: last week a group of US hardline conservatives brought the National Conservatism conference to London. It fell completely flat. Why? Because Britain and America are completely different societies. Key chart: UK Cons are *way* more liberal than US Reps on ~every measure.

Why is there not an age limit on politicians? We don't let people vote until they're 18. We don't let a president less than 35. How are we okay with senators at the age of 89? This isn't ageism. It's about cognitive and personal health to do a critical job to society.

Special shout-out to the pettiest person in the world, @triciacotham. Nothing like getting elected on a pro-choice platform to switch sides because not enough people kissed the ring. jezebel.com/angry-ex-staffer…

In light of today's NC SCOTUS ruling, I share a word that best describes this: Kakistocracy "a government run by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous citizens." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakist…

Sometimes I really wish I could have a Klingon gym buddy. Yelling motivating statements about how getting in that last rep will bring honor to my family and how Kahless would be proud of my workout. Having absolutely no chill whatsoever. A man can dream...

Why doesn't @Tesla has a government run designation? The company only exists because of tax credits and government subsidies. @SpaceX too.

Billionaires buying social media platforms to push disinformation. What a truly boring dystopia we live in. @NPR is a premiere independent news organization. @elonmusk has rocks for brains.

NPR is not state run media. It's unclear if Elon Musk is being willfully ignorant or pushing a narrative/agenda. It doesn't really matter because wrong is wrong.

Just don't tell Republicans there's a small 30second bit involving drag in the middle of it... Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella are timeless as Timon and Pumbaa!

Armageddon does not hold up as a movie... There's so much insane scientific fallacies that it makes the movie almost unwatchable. Steve Buscemi is still amazing though.
