I have intentionally stayed out of the Senate primaries in New Jersey because I did not want this race to devolve into the kind of ugly infighting that has hurt our party in the past. If we are serious about defeating the political machine Cory Booker has benefited from for years, Republicans need a major push toward unity.
Thankfully, three of the four candidates have largely run respectful campaigns. Unfortunately, one candidate chose a different path, misleading voters about endorsements, misrepresenting opponents, and even using deceptive slogans in multiple counties designed to confuse voters at the ballot box. These tactics have no place in a serious race.
Voters are tired of deception. They are tired of manipulative tactics and the toxic people surrounding certain campaigns.
New Jersey will not get better if we continue rewarding this kind of behavior.
