This research uses non-parametric econometrics to estimate a non-linear function between productivity gap and informality of economic sector.

In India, agriculture accounts for only 15% of GDP but 45% of the workforce. However, this study finds that while a formal sector worker is 3-4x more productive than a farm worker, productivity gap b/w farm sector & informal non-farm sector is negligible
