#unhingedpit #A #Q #H The One Who Waits What if a town’s daughters disappeared into a curse that kept them young, but never safe? In 1978, the three Collins children disappeared. Forty-seven years later, Tabby Collins returns to her family’s home in Destin, Kansas, shockingly still thirteen. With Tabby’s impossible return, Police Chief Steven Washington must confront his family legacy and reckon with Destin’s secret: a supernatural contract with the one who waits. In payment for the Bleeding Kansas massacre of Mott, Kansas, parents offer their daughters to wait in purgatory, while religious and city leaders carry out the pact across generations. In the Tradition of Mexican Gothic, for readers who enjoy the gothic haunting of A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher, and the folklore tradition and family secrets of Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix. I write an intention that tells the reader, ‘now we have come to the truth.’ Not with a demand but with an invitation. Not with a raised voice but with a whisper, sometimes with silence even. I ask ‘Look. Do not turn away. But do not lose heart either.’ The whisper is not omniscient, but it is present, not detached but intimate, not narrator but witness. I ask the reader to live in two worlds, the real and the divine. To allow themselves to grasp fragments of both.

I realized that the Game of Thrones books had an outsized chilling effect on my desire to read fantasy fiction. The GoT effect didn't occur in isolation. I had gotten burned by series disappointment before, but GoT was pretty close to a final straw. Now I shun series titles like the plague.

Just saw this tweet --- How does one begin properly researching for a historical novel? I sorely lack a starting point ---- My advice you should not write said historical novel.

#WritingCommmunity #writerscommunity Given the problems of AI writing, what is the reaction to programming your own LLM trained on your own library?

X is no better than any other social media. They all suspend and ban for slight nonsense but allow explicit racism and threats to continue saying - that didn't violate our terms.

I never consider myself 'neuro-divergent'. Probably because it's always been normal to me. The default explanation I give is 'I'm Dyslexic" but that is slightly inaccurate. What I am is a survivor of being born with a crushed left side of my skull and massive brain damage. The result is dyslexic-esque symptoms. It's been a blessing overall, though. My brain rewired itself pretty well.

I hereby rechristen Queso, Cream of Jalapeno Soup, that decorum insists must be only eaten with edible spoons made from corn product. Therefore, Queso is now part of your healthy diet.

#writingcommunity #WIP The Third Sister "The sun turned back on the dial the ten steps by which it had declined." Carson quoted Isaiah. “And the sun spun backwards?” Maria shook her head. “Yes, the sun spun backwards, not ten degrees, but almost a hundred years.” Carson pinched the bridge of his nose, then pressed his fingertips against his brow. “It sounds insane, I know.” “Why did you save me then?” Carson kissed Maria’s forehead. “Why else would the sun turn back, if not to save you?”

#writingcommunity The Third Sister Imagine you see a young woman across a meadow and you know the exact day, the exact moment of her brutal murder. But you fall in love with her anyway.

I wish there was a way of auto-blocking any references to those believing in conspiracies like flat earth, contrails, moon landing deniers, and Mossad 9-11 people.

A sad song Has never done me wrong That steel guitar in a smoky bar Never wrecked my world Left me crying in the night watching those red taillights Like that girl So I'll pour another round Put the needle down On another sad song That's the sound of a heartbreak Steel guitar and a six-eight beat Mournful sound only pain can make That's the sound of a heartbreak Makes me feel Right at home Never alone With a sad song
