Against a competent opponent, this is a clear jam. AJ with a ♦️ still has strong equity, and the BB’s check-raising range should be wide here — not just nutted hands. If we only call, a ton of turns (2/4/6/♦️/7/8/9/T) put us in a tough spot facing another barrel with very little clarity. Raise to 4.7bbs. When facing aggression, focus on two things: check-raise frequency and check-raise size. Get those right first, and the rest of the strategy becomes much clearer. 👇 On monotone boards, you almost always want to use a small check-raise size because your premium hands don’t need much protection. Our range also check-raises less often here since we don’t have a clear nut advantage versus the LJ range. From there, range construction comes down to “gapping.” With so many possible flush combos, you need to decide which hands call and which raise. The bigger the gap between your cards — like K♠2♠ — the more that hand wants to check-raise. Why? Because wider gaps leave more strong flush combinations available in your opponent’s range.
