In the days of horse-drawn carriages, horses’ hooves often DASHED mud onto passengers in wet weather. To block the mud, people installed wooden BOARDS up front. They called them ‘dashboards.’

I think we severely underestimate how LLMs textual nature limits their capability in visual understanding of the world. e.g. if I ask "folding knife where blade hides in handle completely" the results are *wildly* wrong because that information doesn't sufficiently exist as text.

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has now lasted longer than World War I. More than four years of daily missile strikes, drone attacks, occupation, torture, deportations, and destruction. The only way to stop this countdown is to stop Russia. This is not only in Ukraine’s interest. It is in the interest of Europe, North America, and every country that believes borders cannot be changed by force. The longer Russia remains capable of waging war, the longer this clock keeps ticking. And the higher the cost will be for everyone.

#WCEU2027 is in Spain 😍😍😍 Would you like to come a week earlier — or stay a week after #WCEU? In my 126-year-old house in the Spanish mountains? I bought this abandoned house with no water, no electricity, and no people around — to build a new life here. I repaired the roof, installed solar panels, brought water, got Starlink, and planted tomatoes 🍅 to create my personal paradise, where I work on complex #WordPress projects and relax in nature. Now, 3 years later I am ready to open it to my WordPress friends as well. #MySpanishWPRetreat Imagine this: you finally sit down and focus on THAT project. The one that's been sitting in your head for the last two years. 4 hours of focused work every morning, no interruptions, no Slack. Then you close the laptop at 2 pm and are not allowed back until tomorrow morning. You have a good meal with 6–10 WordPress people who are doing the exact same thing, chat, and rest. Then go to the lake, or for a hike, or visit an ancient Spanish castle, or say, river rafting. Sit outside until it gets dark, enjoying the evening freshness of the mountains. Wake up to birds singing and repeat. For 6 more days. At the end of the week, you have that dream project of yours done, ideas for new ones, your body and mind relaxed, and happy. That's #MySpanishWPRetreat. My house. Spanish mountains, 700m up, century-old pine trees. Small group of like-minded creative WordPress people. May 16–24 and June 1–8, 2027. You will have to apply with a project you can finish in ~20 hours of focused work. But for now -- if the idea vibes with you, drop me a line. We'll stay in touch, and I'll send you details when all the details are ready. I'm truly excited about this. And you?

I find "yes, the outcome was shit, but using AI for it was inevitable" very incoherent. there was a lot of decision points that led there, which didn't have to (w/ or w/o AI along). producing shit outcomes is not the job and pretending they are preordained is not the excuse.

LLMs seem hilariously biased against tacticool gear, read the room, we got jeans with pockets for AK mags these days 😬

Did you know that one of the greatest practical jokes ever pulled beyond Earth belongs to astronaut Owen Garriott. In 1973, Garriott was part of the crew aboard Skylab, America’s first space station. The prank he played on Mission Control officer Robert Crippen earned a permanent place in astronaut humor. Before the mission, Garriott brought a tape recorder into space. On it, his wife had recorded several short lines. One day, when Robert Crippen made radio contact with Skylab from Houston, Garriott was ready with the recording. The exchange went something like this: “Skylab, this is Houston. Please respond.” A cheerful woman’s voice came over the line. “Good morning, Houston. This is Skylab.” After a brief pause, Mission Control asked carefully: “Who is speaking?” “Hi, Robert,” the voice replied. “This is Helen, Owen’s wife.” For a few seconds, Crippen tried to process what he had just heard. Then he finally managed to ask: “What are you doing up there?” “I just thought I’d bring the boys something to eat,” the voice answered from orbit. “Everything is fresh.” Mission Control fell silent for nearly a full minute. Then the connection was cut. Apparently, even a trained flight controller needed a moment to recover from that one. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

At least 15 people, including a 3 y.o. child, were killed and more than 100 injured in a single Russian attack on Ukraine today. Russia launched 73 missiles and 656 drones against Ukrainian cities. Ukraine managed to intercept hundreds of incoming targets. But 30 missiles, and dozens of drones still reached their targets. Ukraine is in need of air defense interceptors. The choice is simple: help stop Russian missiles over Ukraine today, or watch Russia bring this terror closer to your borders tomorrow. #SkyShieldNow

"All of this from a stupid presentation" wordpress.org/news/2026/05/w… oh, is that the only thing that happened? I am sure jury will find very little issue with such a minor thing.

I see impact of LLMs on open source discussed in technical sense of coding changing, but not emotional one - the final pinnacle of taking its labors whole, laundering off the last meek obligations of licenses and gratitude. who will be left to take from, when we are gone, though?

In 1974, an Alaskan prankster named Oliver “Porky” Bickar carried hundreds of old tires by helicopter to the crater of Mount Edgecumbe, a dormant volcano near Sitka, Alaska. On April Fool’s Day, he set the tires on fire, sending massive clouds of black smoke rising into the sky and convincing residents that the volcano had erupted. The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted, locals panicked, and many people genuinely believed the long-dormant volcano had come back to life. When investigators finally got close enough, they discovered the smoke was coming from burning tires and a giant message painted in the snow that read: “APRIL FOOL.” The stunt became one of the most famous April Fool’s pranks in Alaska history.

this is hilarious, if you think spammers are dumb and incompetent. gives me suspicion someone got a free nuke dropped on a competitor.
This is equivalent to trying to sell a cop drugs while he’s in uniform in his police car.

my notebook boot got sluggish (as it does) so I spent a while to troubleshoot and the key issue is that windows and hardware spend 15 seconds just staring at each other to establish dominance
