The Conscience Bears Witness What do you say to someone who says, "There's no God?" You reason with him that every building has a builder, and that every painting has a painter. Then you swing from his intellect to his conscience. You need to do this to be effective in reasoning with him because, according to Romans 8:7, his carnal mind is in a state of hostility toward God. The following verse says that his hostility is directed towards God's Moral Law. So, you must learn to speak to his conscience. Romans 2:15 tell us that the conscience "bears witness" with the Law. So, when you say, "You know it's wrong to lie and steal, don't you?" his conscience bears witness, and when conscience begins to do that, it's the first step toward an awareness of the true nature of sin, and the need for God's forgiveness. When Things Go Wrong Is it second nature for you to talk to God about everything? We are told to pray without ceasing, but some are too busy to pray ... until things go wrong. That sort of prayer treats God like a butler, when we are the ones who should be the servants of God. A man was once chopping down a tree with a blunt axe. A friend suggested that he stop for a moment to sharpen his axe. He replied, "I'm trying to chop down this tree. I haven't got time to stop and sharpen the axe!" If he would only stop for a moment and sharpen the axe, he would slice through the tree with greater ease. Whatever you have to do each day, stop and sharpen the axe through prayer. You will slice through the day with great ease. There goes another minute. Gone forever. The world often disguises wickedness as something desirable, but God calls His people to holiness. This article examines Lot, Sodom, and the dangers of worldly influence. livingwaters.com/the-modern-…

Lower the Law Charles Spurgeon (the Prince of Preachers) said, "I do not believe that any man can preach the Gospel who does not preach the Law ... Lower the Law and you dim the light by which man perceives his guilt; this is a very serious loss to the sinner rather than a gain; for it lessens the likelihood of his conviction and conversion. I say you have deprived the Gospel of its ablest auxiliary [most powerful weapon] when you have set aside the Law. You have taken away from it the schoolmaster that is to bring men to Christ ...They will never accept grace till they tremble before a just and holy Law. Therefore the Law serves a most necessary purpose, and it must not be removed from its place." There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

Take a Break, Honey Here are some interpretations of the language of a husband: "Take a break, honey; you're working too hard." That really means: "I can't hear the game over the vacuum cleaner." Here's another thing husbands tend to say: "That's interesting, dear." It really means: "Are you still talking?" One more: "Honey, you look terrific." That one really means: "Please don't try on one more outfit. I'm starving." That's marriage talk, and it carries a hidden meaning, but when we talk with the unsaved, the Bible says, "We use great plainness of speech."(2 Corinthians 3:12) We can't use doubletalk. We must make known the issues of eternity with unparalleled clarity, and the best way to do that is to do what the Bible says. Study the principles used by Jesus, and then imitate Him. The Cross Should Be Raised George MacLeod was a great preacher who, hundreds of years ago, faithfully obeyed the Great Commission. He exalted Jesus Christ in his preaching and wasn't afraid to preach the blood of the cross. He said, "I simply argue that the cross should be raised at the center of the marketplace as well as on the steeple of the church. I am recovering the claim that Jesus was not crucified in a cathedral between two candles, but on a cross between two thieves; on the town's garbage heap; at a crossroad, so cosmopolitan they had to write His title in Hebrew and Latin and Greek ... at the kind of a place where cynics talk smut, and thieves curse, and soldiers gamble. Because that is where He died. And that is what He died for. And that is what He died about. That is where church-men ought to be and what church-men ought to be about." There goes another minute. A Lot of Praying Sometimes we think that all God requires of us is that we pray for this world. Prayer is good, but God has chosen "The foolishness of preaching to save them that believe."(1 Corinthians 1:21) We are asked, "How will they hear without a preacher?"(Romans 10:14) Are you that vessel that has said to God, "Here I am Lord, send me"?(Isaiah 6:8) Are you prepared to come out of the prayer closet and obey the Great Commission? A. W. Tozer said, "Have you noticed how much praying for revival has been going on of lateand how little revival has resulted? I believe the problem is that we have been trying to substitute praying for obeying, and it simply will not work. To pray for revival while ignoring the plain precept laid down in Scripture is to waste a lot of words and get nothing for our trouble. Prayer will become effective when we stop using it as a substitute for obedience." There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

Do As You Please Someone once said, "If I had my way in this world, I would have it so that all would be allowed to do as they please." That sounds ideal ... until someone is pleased to steal from you, or it pleases him to kill another human being. The problem is that sin dwells in our hearts and while it promises pleasure, it's in truth "the ultimate partypooper." Sin is the undetected poison hidden in a delicious meal. Paul spoke of sin deceiving him and bringing about his death. John Bunyan (author of Pilgrim's Progress) said, "The man who does not know the nature of the Law, cannot know the nature of sin." And Martin Luther added, "The first duty of the Gospel preacher is to declare God's Law and show the nature of sin." So, take courage, and take the Law and use it to show sinners the true and deceiving nature of sin. There goes another minute. Gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

Stay At Home When Gideon was told by God to form an army, He cut it down in size. The fearful were told to go home. Those who didn't look out for the enemy while drinking water were dismissed. The rest were instructed to break vessels in the darkness, so that their lights would shine. Then they were to lift up their voices in a shout. Have you enlisted into the Army of God, and yet are more concerned about your fears than you are about the fate of the lost? Then stay at home and pray. Do you believe that you are in a spiritual battle against unseen demonic powers? If not, then you had better stay home. But if you believe in the cause of the Gospel, then be a broken vessel and let your light shine. Lift up your voice as a trumpet and show this people their transgressions. There goes another minute.
