This past year was my 11th and final year covering for @MSHeartland_ as well as my last year at Ignatius.
Before moving down south, I just wanted to express gratitude I had for many individuals in this space in this letter.

Isn’t it fitting this photo places him in one of his favorite spots on this planet, the 1st mile marker at Detweiller between the course and Rt 29? This is where I will always remember him standing, and I’ll never attend another Det meet without seeing him there in my minds eye.
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Mike Newman.
To us, he was simply Mike. To countless others, he was Mr. Newman - a tireless voice for the sport he loved.
From his passion for York High School cross country to his dedication in ensuring athletes across Illinois and the nation had their story recorded and remembered.
Mike, your race may be finished, but your impact will never fade. Your legacy will live on in every athlete, every performance, and every story you helped preserve.
Rest in peace, Mike Newman. 1962–2025.
