Sweets are desired when coming down from a high. Maybe the sugar rush helps. Ice cream sales are also high in those types of areas.
I see a crazy amount of homeless here in SF eat cakes like whipped cream cakes etc, it makes sense cause sugar and energy and they get a sugar high I guess? Very interesting

Depression and pain are all in your head. Filling your head with smoke only hides it. Getting rid of it requires action. Doing literally anything physical over time replaces the depression with feel-good endorphins. Take a walk. Shovel sand. Wash the dishes. Pick up trash. Literally do anything except sitting around and overthinking your situation. I have and still do feel deep depression. Fortunately, it's not for a long time due to the advice above. When I feel it coming, I distract myself with something -- staying busy is the key.

There are probably 1000s of AI assistants out there; from apps to sites to chatbots, but none of them appeal to me. I think an assistant is a personal concept and without designing one from the ground up, it's difficult to find one that's actually useful. Now with AI, it's possible to make practically anything digital on your own. Over time, I will be building my own assistant to help me with day to day tasks. It will be 100% built how I want it. Perhaps the result will be something someone else wants, too.

Good news for Cursor users (like me).
SpaceX has exercised the option to acquire @cursor_ai in an all-stock transaction with the goal of building the world’s most useful AI models. For the past few months, SpaceXAI has been jointly training a model with Cursor, which will be released in Cursor and Grok Build soon. We look forward to working closely with the Cursor team to advance our frontier AI capabilities

While this may be true, it is very difficult to enjoy these simple pleasures when money is insufficient.
Nothing I buy makes me happy. I find happiness in simple things: reading a book with a coffee, a hard workout, building apps, a walk with my wife. Money solved my money problems. I don't worry about next month's rent anymore. But everything that makes me genuinely happy costs little or nothing at all.

There exists a class that redirects frustrations stemming from inadequate political decisions toward those who dedicate their lives to improving the livelihoods of humanity. This redirection is feeble, because it is dependent on an audience of weak and unintelligent minds. As long as our society is motivated to improve and increase their intellect, which is its natural inclination, the latets public relation strategies used by Newsom's team will come and go as quickly as a fart in the wind.
Americans are struggling to pay for groceries and gas while Elon Musk becomes a TRILLIONAIRE. When the federal government is for sale, the rich get richer and everyone else gets shafted. The system is rigged.

Interesting day. After getting a jaywalking ticket in Russia I had to figure out how to pay the fine. I was never sent a QR code via SMS (a typical way to make payments here). After taking a ticket to a bank, they couldn't find it in their system. So, I went to the police station. No one spoke English and thankfully I had someone on speakerphone translate. For the workers at the station, it was a surprise to see an English-speaking American -- probably the first time in their lives. Situation was solved in 10 minutes. I got a printout of a QR code to scan and pay. Even though there was a language barrier, mostly everyone was kind and understanding.

Every year I sit down with my mother to explain how to use her phone and every year Apple sends 750 engineers into their little labs underneath their demonic Cupertino crop circle to come up with new and exciting ways to confuse her
iOS 27 now uses the top-center swipe-down gesture for the new Siri on supported iPhones and iPads.

As someone who's been traveling with a child since she was 4 months (she has two passports and has been to 5 countries before 3 years old), here are more recommendations: * Coloring books / pencils * Books to read * Downloaded videos from YouTube Screen time is an issue, but I consider it okay in moderation. It also depends on what you watch. Our daughter likes to watch "lifestyle" videos of other kids pretending to cook, take care of a baby, etc. Also, airline companies such as Turkish Airlines and Qatar often give kids things to play with on international flights! Istanbul airport also has A LOT of activities for kids, such as a trampoline and carousel. Unfortunately, British Airways hasn't adopted this trend of being family friendly. This is a deciding factor for us when choosing an airline. Air France recently added Starlink to their planes, which is cool. I like how it doesn't require a signup process -- you just click connect and you're good to go.
A great alternative to iPads for flights and road trips. Yoto is what they are called. It’s a small durable box that plays stories via cards you insert. Not sponsored. Should be. I would shill for this company all day.

Meta is both one of the worst and best platforms for online advertising. One recent pet peave I had with it is that it automatically turned on "features" like related media even though I had it disabled before duping an ad set.

This evening I attended a book discussion in Russian about Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, an American writer. As one of the few native English speakers in this city, my input was welcomed during the 3-hour meeting. Most of the attendees spoke or understood English. I hadn't heard of this book even though it's recommended reading in US schools. Probably because I was a delinquent teen who dropped out of high school. But for this meeting I listened to the audiobook completely in a few days.

It's more like branded honesty and transpancy. Just enough to create the appearance of truth. This approach isn't exactly a new concept, but the technology to do so has changed. Trump was using his voice on social media over a decade ago. Democrats until now relied on scripts, committees, teams, etc. Even now it's uncertain if Hunter is actually posting. The text seemingly sounding non-scripted is a step "forward" for the left. Maybe they're using him as the canary.
Radical honest and transparency will become the theme of the next presidential race I think Very interesting because traditionally running for president, they'd find all the "skeletons in your closets", they'd track down all your past relationships, one night stands, any interaction you had with people to find dirt on you Then we had the 2016-2033 SJW wave of cancellations ending people's careers (which ended after Elon bought X) And even if this is a smart social media team behind @hunterbiden (it most certainly is), he does have all of his dirt in public already, him having sex with prostitutes while smoking crack, you can't get much more dirt on you than that So this is a real cultural moment where the total transpancy (and radical honesty) has finally become mainstream I think

Started Flowers for Algernon written by Daniel Keyes and now I'm almost done. In Russia I'm told it's a popular book amongst Americans and it's required reading in schools, but I've never heard of or read the book until last week. Very interesting story. The premise is there's a retarded man who's been given the chance to increase his intelligence. The experiment is a success and he becomes smarter. The story is done entirely in first person chronologically with some deviations to childhood memories.

Stocking up on fruits and vegetables for the week at the local bazaar. Inexpensive and fresh!

All things considered and when compared to other countries, life in America is chill. As a result, such trivial things become front and center.
Okay, I'll bite: why is cleaning some pool in DC such a huge deal to Americans

Are ad set level campaigns acting funny for anyone else on Meta? Yesterday they didn't spend for hours and then within a matter of 10 minutes, they spend 2-3x the daily budget. Today it's seemingly doing the same even with a new campaign. Budget sharing between ad sets is turned off. Quote this if you can't reply. I am trying to discourage bots from responding.

Even though Meta is buggy and annoying, it can be rewarding. Small start here in the morning, but it's a good sign of things to come for the day. Spending $1.56 to make $24 is nice, but it won't work at scale. However it should be about $15-$20 in spend to get a $24 payout. Doing that 250-500 times a day ends up being a nice chunk of profit.

Not the mention the advantageous of US credit cards that reward you with hotel/airline points and cashback for spending.
