I’ve spent the last few weeks exploring “extreme football”, stripping away the norms of positional structure and encouraging shared intention through freedom to interact with the game as the players see fit. A rush GK, 2 anchors and 6 floaters who are free to play anywhere.

#sundayshare one of my favourite questions to ask players. “What does the game require from you?” As the game is ever adaptable and changing, encouraging players to assess situations and manage their involvement supports adaptability and accountability.

Here is a defending session in which planning considerations are to counter the attacking incentives to promote more defensive organisation. What gets rewarded, gets repeated. Which allows the defensive unit to experience more opportunities at solving similar game problems.
