It’s past 10pm at night and I’m in my Holiday Inn in Central London on the phone to my husband. When there’s a scrabbling at my door 🚪. I think it’s a confused guest mistakening my room number for their room… But no the door opens . A man had a key to my room.

No empathy for what it is like having someone open a locked door in a supposedly safe hotel. If you travel on your own but a door stop / wedge . I had one in my case. But as there was a security lock I didn’t even use it. It was so alarming when you are getting ready for bed.

You think your hotel room is secure! You think hotels would realise how alarming it is. No care and no apology from the first receptionist.

I yell - push it shut and see he’s holding a room allocation wallet. I ring down in alarm at reception. They say this room is Mr xxx So they’ve allocated us the same room?! ‘No worries’ says reception entirely missing how alarming it was & offer me a ‘few extra reward points !

The power of mime in managing behaviour! I’ve just called into a local town and in a queue from a shop window saw some school boys climbing up a random ladder 🪜. I look at them, shook my head and indicated they should climb down. They did - 👍 sign from me.
