Parent: What can Johnny do to improve over the summer?
Coach: We offer strength and conditioning run by a professional company, 8 weeks for $150. And free skills training in his sport Monday-Friday.
Parent: Too expensive.
*pays private trainer $150/hour.

Outsource development to a smaller school or local “AAU programs”
Hit the transfer portal. Make a bunch of promises. Who cares how it affects the kid/family.

Summer League 101:
Athletes-Don’t talk to the officials. They’re gonna miss something. They’re getting paid less than their normal rate to come call your game because they’re trying to get better at their craft.
Accept the call, move on.

It’s a bad look if immediately when the buzzer sounds and your team loses, to ask to see the book…then throw a tantrum because the volunteer “didn’t keep stats” for your meaningless game.

Thunder are making a run, a 7 footer sprints the length of the court to challenge the shot and completely shifts the momentum of the game.
And Spurs end up winning.

Social media glorifies the 20 point per game scorer. But most teams already have one, or two of those guys.
What they’re really searching for are the players who dominate in the margins: boxing out, sprinting back, diving on the floor, the second effort, the winning habit repeated over and over again.
Your value isn’t determined by how many minutes you get.
It’s determined by what you do with the minutes you've earned.
Because that impact creates trust. And that trust creates opportunity.
And the players who consistently help the team grow usually end up growing themselves.
