A weird part of my childhood was that my grandmother would occasionally be mortified by my ignorance of random cultural references and make me read a book to correct it. As a result, I was probably the only kid who ever read both Lee Iacocca & Tip O'Neils memoirs in grade school.

I've never really experienced this. I've consistently outpaced the extremely low expectations surrounding me for most of my adult life 🀣
The brilliant thing about getting older is you realize you were never that guy. Could you have accomplished more? Sure. But if you never wanted to do the work, you were never that guy. Mourn the loss of your imagined trajectory but then start building the person you are.

Yeah you were right this advice IS useless 🀣
I’m unmarried so my advice is probably useless and unwanted, but I think people should probably think harder about sexual compatibility before they get married. We’ve had the sexual revolution you might as well use it to figure this out first. It’s obviously important.

This Knicks team, an unlikely gang of misfits achieving greater glory by taking up their cross, is actually an excellent subject for this week's reading about the Apostles. The 11th Archbishop connection to the #11 jersey is a nice providential touch. I'm sorry, this is trad.
Please just stop. Bringing worldly nonsense into the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is a form of sacrilege & shows a complete lack of reverence/worship. It’s also another sign that many in the church would rather be friends with the idolatrous culture rather than confront it and convert it. I fully expect all the regular folks to tell me to β€œsettle down” or β€œthey’re just having fun” or β€œit’s no big deal.” Preemptively…You’re all wrong.

One of my earliest memories of church is a French milltown parish on a rainy night full of working men in suits, their wives covering their hair with plastic bags so they could only have it done once a week. This tweet would have seemed incomprehensible and vaguely gay to them.
I'll never understand people who dress in suit and tie for Mass as if it had to do anything with piety, like "yeah, you like to dress like the anticlerical bourgeois class who secularized the whole western world and you call that piety?"

Wow how convenient the cross led me to my exact secular political belief system. I guess I don't have to do anything different at all!
I follow the Cross to where it leads; to the abolition of the distinction between sign and signified that becomes a conquest within us by Grace through Faith. The disctincion where the money lenders set their hierarchies of power to enslave when there should only be witnesses.

The dumbest thing about the whole Dreher saga was that what happened to me wasn't even a top three redneck drama on my STREET nevermind in my town. I could write a book...

New American fusion cuisine is a curse. It's the Emperor's New Food.
It's crazy how much better restaurants in America have gotten in the past two decades. This is at a small rustic-cabins lodge up at 7,000 feet in the Sierra Nevada, and not on the main tourist routes. 20 years ago, probably just burgers, pizza, soggy sandwiches, chicken parm.

There has never been a wider variety of products readily accessible to restaurants in history and ironically that's because Sysco spends a tremendous amount of effort/money acquiring produce purveyors in their markets and making niche ingredients more affordable
Replying to @PunishedGramsci
Dude, it’s literally all just Sysco. Even when you use different distributors it all just comes from a Sysco affiliated β€œbrand”. We’ve reached the plateau of recipe standardization and it’s literally all just Sysco now

Do you dunces believe that kohlrabi and microgreens and ponzu or whatever were more available 30 years ago in whatever you imagine were the good old days of restaurants? The obsession with ingredients over technique is exactly WHY they all suck now.
