like clockwork these pointless convos lean into classism. the distinction quite honestly does not matter all that much and it genuinely just depends. yall need to get a grip
ITS A GAME ITS MEANT TO BE PLAYED. WHY ARE YOU WATCHING A PLAYTHROUGH OF IT INSTEAD OF PLAYING THE GAME

people say piracy like you can pirate an expensive computer
1. Piracy 1a. Piracy 1b. Just wait to pirate it if it's new 1c. This doesn't stop people from doing this behavior with old games, no excuse idgaf 1d. Emulation subverts region lock 1e. Piracy! 2. 2a. That doesn't matter, gameplay is a part of storytelling 2b. Contempt for medium

not gonna lie i think someone who plays games as collectathons to run through, get all the achievements, then dump and move to the next one with guides in their faces instead of at least enjoying the game are less of fans than people who watch and engage with longplays
the "is watching playthroughs larping" discussion is getting boring, so what do you guys think about people that play with a 100% guide on their first playthrough

Like I'm NOT saying "everyone who achievement hunts doesn't appreciate games" but what I'm saying is there is certain levels of appreciation between these, and I think someone just blazing through games going for 100% in as many games has less appreciation for each than watchers.

the plugs being perfectly manufactured to be standing completely upright and always in the perfect spot to stab you in the foot says otherwise i hate these plugs
the British plug brutally and completely mogs all other types of socket across the world and there isn't a close second

watching someone eat food vs eating food and watching someone play a game vs playing it are two very different things and you know it one of them you can still experience a lot of what it has to offer, just everything. the other, you're a chud watching someone else eat.

last mention on this shit cause i think people should be allowed to have fun without having to have a $2000 per hour job if you watch a longplay, and like the story/music/whatever and like talking about it, you're a fan, just don't talk about gameplay, you haven't played it.

question, is this a hivemind situation or is this "all 5 grouped up queuing" thing where they're seperate but still duplicates of me
If you had 5x yourself as your ow team what rank do you think you could climb to

silent longplays my goat
not to mentiond that watching some dude soyface while bumbling around a game is not how the developers intended it to be experienced. it is contextual death. its like having someone relay an entire movie back to you by word of mouth

ngl i agree with these points but "gameplay isnt necessary" is stupid
many reasons 1. accessibility 1a. money 1b. age 1c. platform/device 1d. region 1e. game is not on market 2. enjoyment 2a. game is more story than gameplay 2b. gameplay is lackluster/not necessary 3. previewing before buying 4. etc who are you to be policing?

i've never seen the horror game point and just realised myself it's an incredibly valid one I love horror movies, i hate horror games, it's definitely the interactivity for me, so being able to watch horror games makes me able to experience them without dealing with staying (1)
there’s SO many valid reasons to be watching let’s plays - you don’t have the required equipment to play a game - you can’t afford a game/console - you can’t play horror games but can watch lets plays of them - you don’t have the time to play video games ETC

completely still, barely progressing before uninstalling. i love the story of horror games, the only ones i've played through really are little nightmares 1-3, the rest i've either avoided or just watched.

RT @Daveon64: Annoying "If you only watched a playthrough of a video game you're not a fan of it" discussion on the tl again and in my opin…

If we gatekept gaming fandoms to only people who purely played it there would be fucking NOTHING we NEED passive consumers and engagers, and if youre well versed in the series despite not playing the games, YOU ARE A FAN. (Minus gameplay discussion)
You watch movies, you read books, you play games. How hard is it to understand not engaging with the medium you call yourself a fan of is considered larp

its kinda funny because so many people bring up piracy and emulation they're valid ways of playing a games but i'm pretty sure devs didn't make games so you would pirate them or emulate them, not intended, fake fan like? that's dumb let people experience games
Lowk I don't think interacting with something "the way it was intended" matters like at all

if you didn't play a game, you have no right to talk about gameplay or act like you did. You're still a fan if you enjoyed what you watched and talk in the fandom.

I hate when people rehash the "you can't be a fan of a game without playing it" because it always devolves in just shitting on poor people
