Court Dismisses Suchart's Defamation Case Against Isaan Record Editor The Chon Buri Provincial Court has dismissed a criminal defamation case filed by Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin against The Isaan Record content editor Kowit Phothisan, ruling at the preliminary examination stage that the complaint lacked sufficient grounds. The case stemmed from a Facebook post shared by Kowit in February about allegations that Suchart received bribes linked to the recruitment of Thai workers for berry picking in Finland. Suchart sought 1 million baht in damages. The court ruled that the post did not accuse Suchart of taking bribes but reported news and raised questions about a matter of public interest involving a public official. It found Kowit acted in his capacity as a journalist and without malicious intent. The lawsuit was linked to reporting on a Department of Special Investigation (DSI) probe into allegations that Thai officials and politicians received about 36 million baht from Finnish berry companies between 2020 and 2023. The DSI has forwarded the case to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for further investigation. Suchart has denied any wrongdoing. The ruling comes days after new Supreme Court guidance aimed at preventing lawsuits intended to silence criticism and public participation. The case was one of two defamation lawsuits Suchart filed against senior editors of The Isaan Record over its reporting on the berry-picker investigation. A separate case against executive editor Hathairat Phaholtap was later withdrawn. Media groups, rights organizations and international press freedom advocates had criticized the lawsuits as potential SLAPP cases that could undermine press freedom. #Thailand #SLAPP #สุชาติชมกลิ่น #เดอะอีสานเรคคอร์ด #JournalismIsNotACrime

Good news that the #Chonburi court has thrown out Deputy PM Suchart Chomklin's vindictive, wholly unjustified SLAPP suit against @isaanrecord editor Kowit Photisan. The lawsuit was ridiculous to start with, so clearly focused on retribution vs. investigative reporters. Justice for Thai berry pickers and overseas laborers! prachataienglish.com/node/11…

Huge victory for information integrity online in #Thailand! ISOC caught red-handed with their hand in the IO cookie jar, and justice served by court ordering ISOC to pay 210,000 baht to Angkhana and Anchana. Government budget documents clearly showed ISOC paid for the offending IO website, Pulony.
Court Orders Removal of ISOC-Linked IO Content, Awards Damages to Rights Defenders The Civil Court on Thursday ordered the Prime Minister’s Office, which oversees the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), to remove content and photographs from the website pulony.blogspot.com after ruling that the page was controlled by ISOC and violated the rights of two human rights defenders. According to iLaw, the appellate court ordered the content to be deleted within seven days after the judgment becomes final. The court also awarded damages of 120,000 baht to Senator Angkhana Neelapaijit and 90,000 baht to Anchana Heemmina, who filed the lawsuit over online posts they said were part of an information operation targeting activists in the southern border provinces. #Thailand #ไอโอ

Par for the course for @FIFAcom @FIFAWorldCup which has never met a dictatorship or autocracy that it didn't want to coddle and cozy up to. Just look at their track record sucking up to rights abusing governments in the Gulf States. Simply outrageous but that's the world #FIFA head honcho Infantino wants. He's the worst.
Absolutely disgraceful that @FIFAcom @FIFAWorldCup can given broadcasting rights for Myanmar to a Burmese military owned company, Mytel, sanctioned for its role in funding human rights violations and the arrest of activists. mytel.com.mm/#/post-detail/6…

🇹🇭 Ahead of Thailand’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in November, @FortifyRights submitted a stakeholder report to the U.N. Human Rights Council detailing concerns about #Thailand’s human rights record, including its treatment of refugees. As part of the #UPR process, U.N. member states will assess Thailand’s human rights record since 2021. “Four and a half years into the UPR cycle, despite Thailand’s commitments, refugees continue to face severe violations,” said Thanida Piyachot, Human Rights Specialist at Fortify Rights. “U.N. Human Rights Council member states should use this review to hold Thailand accountable to its commitments to protect refugees.” Read the report: bit.ly/ThailandUPR2026 Read the full news release: fortifyrights.org/tha-inv-20…

Breaking! (11/06/2026) #Thailand's Appeals Court found that the Prime Minister Office's Internal Security Operations Command controlled pulony.blogspot.com, which disseminated disinformation and hate campaign targeting Angkhana Neelapaijit and Anchana Heemmina related to their activities to defend human rights in the conflict-ridden southern border provinces. The influential security agency was ordered to remove those contents and pay damages to the two prominent Muslim woman human rights defenders. #กอรมน #ไอโอ #อังคณา #อัญชนา
