Fascinating to see @USDOT imposing a $50 million fine on an airline for appalling mistreatment of disabled passengers. Another news report: nytimes.com/2024/10/23/trave… I wonder if @transportgovuk would consider a review and fine like this, or empower/fund the @UK_CAA to do it.
When an airline breaks a passenger's wheelchair, it's not just wrong—it's illegal. Today, our department is setting a new standard for how we will hold airlines accountable and protect the rights of passengers with disabilities. cbsnews.com/news/american-ai…

Do we know any disabled folk who lives in the Cobham area of Surrey? We've been asked for help to find people to campaign about the reduced access at Timpsons from an accessible store location to a small pod which is not accessible. @SurreyCoalition maybe you know some folks?

Lovely to see a positive brilliant access story. We love to see it. Do we know of any museum orgs who we could share this as "great inclusive practice" with? If so, please tag them in! @charlhyde you might know for example :)
Looks like @LeedsCityMuseum is a great disability-awesome place to visit with staff who can arrange described tours with extra-touch access for visually impaired people and who seem to know how to be inclusive with joy. Lovely review by @ConnorScottG

We have also added a section to our website about challenging inaccessible public spaces in different ways. Currently just got cycling things but much applies to disabled-pedestrian barriers and we hope to add pedestrian stuff as our research allows. reasonableaccess.org.uk/reso…

This is a fantastic 20 min video with good captions where @MikeyCycling interviews @saj_anderson about one of his PHV driver refusing guide dogs cases in the Magistrates court & challenging discrim. Mikey also goes on to explain a bit more about the 2.5 hours in court itself.
Stephen's victim impact statement hit me right in the feels when he told how he very nearly didn't take on Ava because of the discrimination he faces for having an assistance dog. Uber Driver GUILTY In Court - Likely To Lose PHV Licence. youtu.be/AV07uJTd59M?si=q8AT…

Assistance Dog users, what creative strategies do you have for dealing with potential and actual dog refusals? Do you have scripts that you use, or distraction tactics. We're thinking of blogging the ones people share with us to share with everyone.
Replying to @RobinAllenKC
Where it works. I want to see if people of various ethnicities and male/female assistance dog users themselves can get this tactic to work. Cos if they can, I'll start collating creative access ideas for @Reas_Access website.

Belated quote tweet following our trustee @Esther_Loukin's excellent Swarthmore Lecture at the very end of April. #AccessIsLove
Last week I interviewed disability rights campaigner @Esther_Loukin for @Friendmagazine, following her thought-provoking #SwarthmoreLecture outlining her important legal activism and why good access is good for us all. In short.... 'Access is love,' she said. @Reas_Access

The Court of Appeal hearing about the government's disablist Disability Strategy (high court upheld challenge, govt is appealing). 28 and 29 June, 2 full days at the Royal Courts of Justice, in-person and live-streamed hearing. Support would be VERY welcome!
The case is estimated to last the full two days. At stake is the Government's obligation to ensure that consultations it chooses to do are "fair". So affects more than just disability rights. Hearing will be for two full days, and will be live-streamed at judiciary.uk/the-court-of-ap…
