Refusing to attend the State of the Union is not “resistance.”
It is institutional contempt.
The State of the Union is not a campaign rally.
It is not a fundraiser.
It is not a party convention.
It is a constitutional obligation under Article II, Section 3.
The President reports to Congress.
Congress represents the people.
All of the people.
When elected officials boycott that address, they are not snubbing a man.
They are signaling disdain for the office.
They are signaling disregard for procedure.
They are signaling indifference toward the citizens who voted differently than they did.
More than half the country voted one way.
The other half voted another.
The State of the Union is one of the few remaining civic rituals where all branches assemble under one roof. It symbolizes continuity of government. It symbolizes peaceful transfer of power. It symbolizes unity under law even when policy divides us.
Skipping it is not bravery.
It is performative tribalism.
If you were elected to represent your district, your job is to show up.
Show up.
Listen.
Disagree afterward if you must.
Debate on substance.
But absence communicates something else entirely.
It communicates: “I do not recognize the legitimacy of this administration.”
That is a dangerous precedent in a constitutional republic.
If Republicans had done this under a Democrat President, the media would frame it as anti-democratic sabotage.
Consistency matters.
Disagreement is healthy.
Boycott as branding is not leadership.
Public office requires maturity.
Not social media theater.

Jacob Frey is the last person who should be lecturing us about having compassion for those in the country illegally.
Where’s their compassion for respecting our country’s laws and the hardworking people of this nation by not entering illegally; for Americans who toil day in and day out to build the best lives possible for themselves and their families; when they demand that Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars provide free healthcare, food, housing, and more to those who contribute nothing in return; or for the victims of crimes committed by illegals, and the families who’ve lost loved ones at their hands?
Democrats refuse to acknowledge, and likely couldn’t even name, the innocent lives lost to illegal immigrants, like Laken Riley or so many others forgotten in their narratives.
We do have compassion for those suffering in other countries, but America can’t be the dumping ground for everyone seeking a better life, or worse, those who commit crimes or aim to harm us.
There’s a legal path to enter this country, just as there is for us to visit others—and we warmly welcome those who follow it. Let’s prioritize our own citizens first. 🇺🇸
