A thought I had this morning that feels relevant to the Sirens' side of the PWHL draft order discussion: New York started backup goalie Callie Shanahan in the final game of the season -- just her 3rd start as a rookie. I supported the decision because the Sirens were already locked into 3rd in the Gold Plan standings. They end up losing 4-0 to Boston in their only chance to earn draft order points. Now we know that getting a point in that game would have put them ahead of expansion teams in the draft, not behind. If New York knows that going in, I'd assume they start Kayle Osborne instead. We'll never know if that changes the outcome, but turns out there were pretty high stakes for a game that many assumed didn't matter at all.

My thoughts on the PWHL Draft order: It makes zero sense and leans too heavily into ensuring expansion teams have success. The league forgot about the existing teams and their fan bases. Waiting until two days before the draft is unprofessional and absurd. It’s that simple.

the pwhl being so mismanaged as a league makes me so angry because it makes it so much harder to be a fan when i love women’s hockey and want this league to become well-established and successful. the expansion/draft being at the severe expense of the existing teams is ridiculous

If you want soft thighs and big hips and boobs it means that when you’re transitioning you have to EAT!!! These DDDs and hips that don’t fit in those shorts anymore didn’t come from estrogen alone!

Quick reaction to the Sirens picking 7th in the PWHL Draft: - the decision to protect Fillier, Kaltounkova, and O’Brien in Phase 1 looks particularly wise now - Really hurts New York’s chances of getting Brändli, don’t think they can afford to reach on her in Round 1 - Not being able to take one of Edwards/Murphy will rightfully haunt fans for a while, but Sirens could also completely miss out on the top tier of forwards (Janecke, Simms, Eden). Some good D on the board, but feels like NY needs a forward to replace what they lost in expansion.

i know the sirens got 1oa two years in a row but well that’s what happens when you have a bad season, they needed it last yr after having their roster freaking decimated by the expansion draft but who the hell did they piss off to deserve getting so fucked over this time lol

So Vancouver, Seattle, NY & Toronto do not make the playoffs. All with the exception of Vancouver lose multiple players during the “expansion process”. Yet, Vancouver & Seattle get to pick 1st & 2nd but, NY & Toronto don’t get to pick until 7th & 8th? Make this make sense 🙄
