Influencer Detained in Canada for Promoting Alberta Separationโฆ Seriously?
OTTAWA โ A Canadian influencer is at the center of national concern this week after making what officials are calling a โbold and deeply inconvenient postโ about Alberta separation.
The influencer,
@martyupnorth, suggested Alberta might be โbetter off on its own,โ immediately triggering what insiders describe as a โplease donโt let people look into thisโ level response from Ottawa.
Authorities have not confirmed a formal detention, but did confirm the situation is โbeing handled with appropriate seriousness.โ
โWe fully support free speech,โ a government spokesperson said. โWe just prefer it doesnโt include provinces leavingโฆ or doing the math.โ
The comment about โdoing the mathโ comes as independent analyses, charts, and basic arithmetic continue to circulate online suggesting Alberta might actually be better offโa development federal officials were quick to clarify has โnot been verified by approved experts, partner media, or our usual panel of concerned talking heads.โ
โCanadians should rely on trusted sources,โ the spokesperson added. โNot random graphs that make things lookโฆ misleading.โ
The incident comes amid new efforts to regulate โharmful narrativesโ onlineโgenerally understood to include anything that could threaten national unity, economic stability, or uncomfortable conversations about where the money comes from.
Alberta, often referred to internally as โthe part of the country that pays for things,โ remains a particularly sensitive subject.
At press time, Canadians were reminded they are still free to express themselves online โ
as long as it doesnโt start making sense.
