Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis just got a ton of new gameplay footage, as well as a whole load of new information from previews on this remake
Here are the highlights:
- Lara's movement and gameplay generally described as feeling more arcade-y and less realism focused like the reboot trilogy, was there is a lot more dodging, rolling and doing classic Lara flips.
- The story has a far more wacky, light tone rather than the more ultra serious tone of the reboot trilogy, as you take on dinosaurs
- Eurogamer mentioned the game feels "AA" in a charming way, not quite as high level cinematic as an Uncharted, more focused on being a fun, lightweight adventure as og TR was
- There is no yellow paint to point where you can climb, Grappling across ledges is now far more involved than the reboot trilogy
- Lara still has the long jumping animation from the original game
- Strong focus on puzzles in the demo previewers played, stuff like pushing crates, finding cogs, clearing debris, all you expect from Tomb Raider puzzles
- Crafting returns, such as healing medicines
- There are collectibles which can be used to unlock skills
- Combat is done with the dual pistols, Lara has a special ability that allows her to slow down time and begin to flip around while shooting at enemies
- Alix Wilton Regan acting as Lara Croft is specifically mentioned as being an excellent take on the character
- Combat and puzzle difficulty are both customizable fully and can be changed separately
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis releases February 12th 2027 and costs $59.99
So far, this remake looks like it's not going to be anything mindblowing but it will be a fun entry into the franchise and most importantly, re-introduce classic Lara to a new audience. I'll definitely be playing and reviewing this next year so stay tuned for that!
