In the gospels, Jesus asks 300 questions and only gives a direct answer to 3 of the questions he was asked. That’s a 100 to 1 ratio. This is i contrast to our culture, where everyone is so quick to give their opinion. What if love simply looks like curiosity out in the world?

The fundamental tenet of love is commitment, and commitment means making a move of restriction towards someone else. If we withhold the commitment that is needed for our relationships to thrive, then we will never experience the intimacy that would’ve been possible otherwise.

True power is found in a life of service. In Jesus, we witness someone who had all the power in the world, yet gave it away by serving humanity. Understanding this truth not only with our heads, but also by living it out in practice is the key to truly living freely.

We all have heard — and to some extent believed — the message that life is all about happiness. But happiness cannot be found in the physical things of this world. They are temporal. True happiness and joy can only be found by fixing our eyes on the eternal, which is Jesus.

Everyone wants to love and be loved, but in a culture that is non-communal and promotes casual hookups, this is impossible. It is only through fully vulnerable, fully committed relationships that we can experience the love we desire. The ultimate fulfillment of this is marriage.

It is faulty thinking to say that if you disagree with someone, particularly about identity, then you hate that person. The reality is that we disagree with people all the time that we love, and it would be impossible to agree with everyone’s choices or decisions.

On Sunday, Pastor Michael explained how the gospel supplies us with a better story than all the narratives we hear from culture, one that is capable of filling our deepest hopes, needs and desires. When we put Jesus at the center of our story, it changes us.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son reveals an important truth. There is neither good nor bad people in this world, only people who have realized their own brokenness and those who have not. The question is today where we sit in this equation.
