Vertebrates and octopi were the first to evolve the "camera eye." We vertebrates have a blind spot where our nerve fibers pass through the retina. This is because of our eyes being outgrowths of our brains as opposed to "invagination" of photosensitive skin, as it was in octopi.

People say that all video is political, but it isn't quite true - NIST developed a completely apolitical video in 1975. It was 32 minutes of footage of a white lab wall, shot on NIST-brand 35mm film. Sadly, it was lost when a digitization tech discarded the reel as a misprint.
