Great news for Washington's Ninth District. Today, the House of Representatives passed a package that will deliver $6,316,000 in community project funds back to our community in WA-09. These Community Project Funding investments reflect what our communities are asking for — cleaner water, safer neighborhoods, and more opportunities for young people to succeed. I will continue fighting to ensure federal resources are directed where they can make the greatest local impact.

Happy Women Veterans Day to all those in WA-09. Our female servicemembers are so often overlooked for their immense contributions to our nation’s history, and I hope we continue to honor and uplift the stories, bravery, and impact of these women across our military branches.

The first match up at Lumen Field is just days away, and it’s important to be prepared if you’re heading to Seattle to watch some soccer. Consider taking Sound Transit to save money, cut back on traffic, and celebrate responsibly. Thanks to Seattle PD and those supporting our state during this great event. komonews.com/news/local/seat…

Today marks the opening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As fans, athletes, and visitors from around the world come to Seattle for tournament matches, I’m proud to welcome them to our city. Welcome to Seattle, and best of luck to Team USA!

King County could lose $26 million in federal homelessness funding because of callous Housing and Urban Development cuts from the Trump administration. This will significantly decrease affordable housing access and services for those who need it most. The people of Washington state need these funds to get people off the streets and in secure housing facilities. seattletimes.com/seattle-new…

I voted NO on H.R. 7892. Ghost student fraud is real and needs to stop. But the Education Department already built a system to catch it in April. This bill just locks that untested system into law — without any guardrails. That's not how you do this.

Make no mistake: when ED's fraud detection system flags a student without a traditional ID, without reliable internet, or experiencing homelessness — and it will — that student has nowhere to go. They're stuck in bureaucratic limbo. This bill doesn't protect anyone. It traps the most vulnerable.

This isn't about fraud prevention. It's about giving the Trump Administration another tool to control education and withhold aid. I need solutions that actually work. Not rushing to legislate what regulators are already doing. Practical beats perfect.

Republicans just passed a $70 billion bill to fund ICE and border enforcement—with nothing in it to actually solve the problem. Congress has already handed ICE and CBP $210 billion in the last 18 months. To be clear—more money isn't going to fix a broken system. I voted no, and here's why. Democrats asked for basic guardrails. We wanted warrants required for searches. We wanted oversight after federal agents killed two Americans in Minneapolis. We wanted body cameras mandated and to prohibit ICE and immigration agents from wearing masks. Republicans said no to all of it. Then they rammed this through using a budget trick to avoid real debate and compromise. Meanwhile, families in my district are still struggling with housing costs, mental health care is still a crisis, and good jobs are still hard to find. That's where we should be investing. That's what real security looks like.

Though the Equal Pay Act was signed into law decades ago, significant pay disparities still exist across our country. Women, on average, continue to earn less than men, and racial pay gaps remain a reality for many communities. Every person should be compensated based on skills and performance, not their gender, race, or identity. Equal pay now.

Last year, 38,838 people lost their lives to gun violence. Expanding and strengthening background checks could help reduce this number by preventing firearms from falling into the wrong hands. Nearly 90% of Americans support universal background checks as a common-sense measure prevent convicted felons and domestic abusers from obtaining a gun. During Gun Violence Awareness Month, I remain committed to strengthening background check requirements and advancing policies that help protect communities across our country.

President Trump does not live in the factual world. He promised no war with Iran, and he has certainly broken that promise.

Many of us in the Ninth District live near SeaTac Airport, and it’s important that our community is involved in the impacts of aviation paths. There will be town halls in SeaTac, Des Moines, Federal Way, and Burien later this month, but a public comment period is open from now until July 21. To share any thoughts about the Sustainable Airport Master Plan, visit Get Involved – SAMP: sea-samp.com/get-involved/

Sources tell CNN that Pres. Trump talked Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu out of a significant strike on Iran. "It's hard to know what message Trump is sending, and certainly it's harder to know how Netanyahu is responding to it," says Democratic Rep. Adam Smith.

It was great to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the City of Renton's Legacy Square, Piazza Park, and Renton Market projects on Saturday. The opening of these projects creates new spaces for community to gather and play, and for the local economy to grow. I was proud to secure $1.5M to support the development of the Renton Market and am excited to see the way it will support our small businesses.

American families have paid an additional $2,500 this year to counterbalance Trump's tariff taxes, while the President made $220 million from stock trades in the first quarter alone. His personal wealth is skyrocketing while almost 5 million Americans have dropped their health insurance because of Republican price increases. It's clear that President Trump cares only for himself, not for his country.

Today, Griswold v. Connecticut, the ruling protecting contraception access, is under threat. In Washington state, we trust women to make their own healthcare decisions. Across the country, that’s changing fast. The right to control your own bodies, your futures, your families—that can’t be negotiable. I’m fighting to protect it. If Griswold falls, birth control could be restricted. IUDs could be banned. Emergency contraception could be outlawed. These aren’t hypotheticals—they're happening right now in other states. This started with the overturn of Roe, and this is why we fight.

During Wear Orange Weekend, I stand with my community partners to fight back against gun violence in the United States. We have lost far too many lives across our country, and we need change to prevent any further tragedies.
